Correct on both. I learned about the high blood pressure about 2 years ago and got on a healthy diet. Found out about the Diabetes back in November.

My sister has the same condition. She works out everyday now since that really helps her manage the pain as she finds moving around minimizes the pain from it. I know she was taking Enbrel shots once a week to help and also takes an anti-flammatory drug called Mobic (sp?) to manage as well. I know you can only take Enbrel for so long before it becomes toxic to the liver and you have to try an alternative medicine to alleviate the pain. Now she's on something else that she likes better than Enbrel but the name escapes me. I'll ask her in a few.

Psoriasis can precede the development of psoriatic arthritis. Keep an eye on it.

Well I guess I learned something new. Psoriatic arthritis can cause high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. People with PsA are about 50% more likely to have type 2 diabetes.

    Good vibes your way, Blatz.

I have a good friend fighting severe rheumatoid arthritis. He eventually beat it back and is a workout warrior again, but his strong drugs mean the doctors are always keeping an eye on his liver enzymes. It's the rock and a hard place balance of that sort of disease I guess.

Hoping they find you some help soon. I keep thinking we'll have a big research breakthrough on these auto-immune conditions. There has to be some way to tell the body to knock it off.

I work in the medical field but don't lean on traditional medicine and believe that's quite a lot of drugs your physician has you on by the way. I too have psoriasis. I use to rely on medications but IMO think it made it worse. Best way to control it is through what you eat. Modern medicine will tell you otherwise because big pharma likes getting paid.

My aunt has the same thing, and the doctor prescribed Humira and is really working for her, she can do a lot of stuff now.

I thought psoriasis was a skin condition. Can someone tell me how does psoriasis lead to arthritis/diabetes/high blood pressure?

Blatz I really hope you feel better soon...

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder. Normally your immune system defends your body against foreign invaders (bacteria, viruses, etc) but when you have this disorder your body starts attacking itself and the response is inflammatory which manifests onto the skin and if severe enough will affect the joints.

I had psoriasis but got into a med trial at M.D. Anderson for Alefacept and it went in to remission. Other drugs like Humira and Enbrel have since proved to be more efficient. I have a little mild psoriatic arthritis but everything seems to be kept at a minimum with just methotrexate and meloxicam.

If you are on Houston, I would highly recommend Dr. Madeline Duvic at MD Anderson (if she hasn't retired). It's a pain in the ass to get there but she has access to drug trials that can save you a ton of money. Over 3 years or so I got like $60,000 of drug treatment for free.

I'm surprised your not on methotrexate, it's cheap, effective and makes all the other drugs work better. Also, I like meloxicam better than celebrex. It seems more benign. Celebrex made me jumpy.

You could probably benefit from some mar1juana too, it just took the edge off the anxiety and pain for me.

Just to give an update, instead of Enbrel, my sister takes Simponi now. She likes it better because she only has to do injections once a month. She also takes Meloxicam as well.

Didn't want to create another thread just to ask. Recently saw a commercial about some new drugs against psoriasis during Rockets - Warriors game-break, but forgot the name of the drugs. Maybe someone knows? Or used them? Does it really help? Thank you!
