Just a question to the guys who know... What will happen to the Rocket's salary cap when Yao becomes a free agent? Will they have to reserve the salary that is opened up by Rice for an extra year to pay for him and avoid the luxury tax? They will still have to extend themselves an additional 4 mil a year or so to handle it I think.
Yeah...and so does Griffin's and Nachbar's AND Mobley's. The year after.....Moochie's and Taylor's contracts will expire. The year after that.....Francis's.
It makes no difference with Yao. He is our player so we will be able to sign him to any amount - up to the league maximum - regardless of the salary cap. That's how it is with all players that have been under the same contract for at least 3 years. Whatever team they are with when that contract expires has the right to sign that player to the league maximum even if it puts them over the salary cap and/or even if they are over the cap at that time.
When Yao is a free agent, and that means Shaq should be retire or just like a old daddy, and Yao should be the most dominant center in the NBA by the time. I guess all the team in the NBA will hot pursuit Yao, EX: Lakers, Rockets, Knicks, Kings, Dallas, Spurs, .................and so on. [/COLOR]The team will do whatever they can do sign Yao to a 6-7 year contract, and the don't even think about it when u can at least offer Yao 120 Millions, Yao will provide great basketball and attention, and Yao is a money machine. But I think the top 3 team that Yao will consider is: New York Knicks: Come on, NY is the greatest city in the world, there're a lot of asians in NY, and great Chinese food, great areana, great people, a lot $$$$$$$$$$$, and most importantly, the fans will go crazy for Yao, so I think NY will be the top of Yao's choice. LA Lakers: Same as NY, everything is great, money, people, fans, food, China town,...... and so on..... Houston Rockets: For all of you who live in Houston, you can complete this part for me.
most likely yao will sign an extension like steve and he will never be a free agent. as someone said before, it will not increase our payroll as cato's contract ends at the same time. yao has said he doesn't really like ny compared to houston in an interview before. all current signs point to him signing a max extension and being a rocket for the next 9 years at least.
why? based on seeing the kind of person Yao Ming is you can't possibly think he would leave unless the rockets forced him to. Really people, come on
I don't know what goes on in Yao's head/mind, and in a few years things could change, BUT he does seem like the kinda guy who enjoys his privacy and space, so it's hard to imagine him being in NY. The Asian cultural attractions/affinity of the west coast may be a draw but after 3-4 years in Houston, Yao and his family may be all settled and happy in the town. So far the team and the city of Houston in general seem to have been very kind and welcoming of Yao and his folks, so if most people's perception of Yao being a person who doesn't have an inflated sense of entitlement/ego is correct, I could see him staying on, especially if the max out on his contract.
