Back in the 90s there was a cool Six Degrees of Freedom flight combat game called Descent - anyone recall that?

And if you do, you might want to check out www.descendentstudios.com for some upcoming information.

    I do.

We spent the whole summer trying to connect over modem to go through 1:1 battles.

Now imagine battles of teams of 8 players each, and maps with more that 8 teams - add in mining, and drilling through voxels to create back avenues into enemy basis, and multiple ship types that are all upgradeable...uh yeah, imagine that.

I remember Descent. It felt pretty ground breaking at the time even though I'm sure it wasn't the first of its kind.

Hopefully the new one is as much fun.

I liked Descent but there are too many ways to move for a FPS.

That is what the walls are for to constrain the combat.

Either way - check us out at www.descendentstudios.com - we have a big announcement in about a week.

I just mean there were a ton of controls. What is the suggested controller for that game? You could move in the x,y,z axis and also spin, tilt in place, select weapons etc. I don't have that many fingers.

    Mouse and Keyboard.
    Game controller
    Joystick

Or combo - we will support them all, but I suspect most will use game pad.

Back around 1995 we used to play this game at the office during lunch and after hours. I couldn't play worth crap because I couldn't afford a good joystick. Well, that, and I suck at FPS, but the only reason I played was to piss everybody else off with the Mega Missile. I believe this was the game we graduated to after getting bored with DOOM.... it was a ton more fun than DOOM, IMO.

The Mega Missile is coming back !

And remember the plasma missile? You fired it into the wall and the 3 plasma bolts would track back to your enemy.

    Yeah, good times.

It was the only game I played on the first computer I ever had, a mac given to me by my engineer uncle.

If he hadn't given us a computer, who knows when my technologically inept parents would have brought one home.

I first pronounced it 'decent' because I was 4 and the first time I ever tried to pronounce Descent. Descent was pretty decent, turns out

I think that was the Smart Missile and it was one of my favorite weapons along with the Mega Missile and quad lasers.
