considering Lebron hasn't played 1 nba minute other than summer league it wouldn't be right if Yao didn't win it.

Yao's not going to win it over Soriano, who came out of prospectdom last year to blast onto the scene as the game's best 2b in 2002.

First Yao gets robbed of ROY, now he's going to get cheated out of the ESPY? :( Let's just make up an award and give it to him: The 7'5" Wall of Wonder Award, given to the 7'5" person who accomplishes the most in a year!

Yall are crazy if you dont think Lebron is going to win. It's not even a competition. James created so much hoopla around himself and he is only a high school player. He crashed onto the scene like no other high shooler beofre. Yao is definately in second place, but Lebron would beat out anyone from the previous years.

    He is a rare occurance.

I can't really see how James or Soriano or anyone on that list could beat Yao for the award. None of them other than perhaps James has become the media icon that Yao is. Outside of their sport, the others are relative unknowns.

And for James, he has not played one minute of NBA basketball so there isn't much to breakthrough. Nothing has been proven here (yet perhaps). So for this year at least, James would not deserve the award.

I'm pretty sure they'll show a tape video of Yao graciously accepting the award and thanking fans. :p

Not that I care, but a 7'5" Chinese Center who may emerge to be the best in the NBA is also a fairly rare occurance.

The ESPY is made for hoopla-stoopla...While I would love to see the attention it is simply artificial-media bound...

Soriano. Glad it wasn't Lebron. That would suck if he lost it to Lebron, who hasn't played one damn minute....

    Soriano.

Kind of odd, because all the nominees were players with incredible talent who simply harnessed it - I would prefer a breakout award go to a guy who came out of almost nowhere to be very good.

    Heh...guess I called it.

And for my next trick, I'll turn a $1 lottery ticket into a worthless lottery ticket.

It's just an award which doesn't really matter.

But what I don't get is why all they showed was Yao dunking!

His dunks aren't that great to me. They are fairly simple.

The only good part they showed of him was the Shanghai Shake and scoring against the whole Pacers team under the basket....

They should have had some big dunks....some of his nice passes.....like the slap pass to Francis against the Kings. They should have also shown one of his standing there with his back to the basket and then spinning around and dunking it. And they could have shown him swishing that beautiful 3 pointer!

    But oh well...pretty good show.

ALSO...Patrick Ewing was wearing a Rockets shirt!

It's always better to be in second place, because it will push you harder to get into first place.

Soriano came out of nowhere in my opinion. I mean, just look at him, does anybody think that at little skinny dude like that could hit 39 homeruns?
