I have over 12,000 emails in my gmail. Can anyone give any suggestions on how to clean it up without accidentally deleting important emails? Important emails could vary in name so it's very difficult to just search and delete.

Sort by attachment and delete the largest ones.

Search anything with FWD and delete that

I also have the problem of being too important to check all of my email therefore leaving thousands of emails unread.

    Someone told me one . . .. .

Do a search for the word "unsubscribe"
then delete everything that has it in there because it is most likely spam
    or something non important

Just upgrade to Gmail premium. It's worth the extra bucks for such a great service and storage.

You can search for "unsubscribe" and delete all the newsletter/promo emails at once.

    Outlier, hopefully everything is okay.

You've been on a "delete" mode lately.

Just sit right there, and I'd like to take a minute to tell you how to fix this, or at least how they fix it in West Philadelphia, where I was born and raised. When this first happened to me, I was just relaxing, up to no good, when a couple of spammers started making trouble in my inbox. I got in one little fight and my mom got scared, and told me to just do a search for the word 'Unsubscribe', and that this should reveal a list of emails you can probably delete without fear of them being anything but unsolicited spam.
