My favourite soccer team is A.C. Fiorentina. Their new young center forward is an African black...He might be the best black player in their history over 90 yrs. I might be his biggest fan from Asia. Am I a racist? NO! I just love seldom/diversify/Cinderella.
People is racist because all they saw is race but I saw sth else from Lin. If Lin didn't create Linsanity, I wouldn't be a fan of him. If Lin sucks badly(like he needs to find a D-League job), I wouldn't be a Lin fan anymore. If Lin go to CBA(Chinese league) to find a spot I wouldn't watch his games that much anymore(only motivation would be to see how good he can be over there) cuz I am never a fan of bad basketball, even it's full of my race, Asian.
There is a reason that I keep coming back to this thread and that's just like you said: irony.
In a country like America, patriotism/nationalism is generally viewed as a positive trait, whereas racism is viewed as a negative trait. Sure you could try to drill down and separate the beliefs and admittedly their sources/biases are very similar in nature, historically they were both positive traits, but in a practical sense to current times, they're very different, especially given that the entire world's political paradigm is the nation state, you are supposed to think that way. And it's not an asian thing either, the way Chinese people view Yao is seen in much the same way as Germans view of Dirk. To give another example, if at the olympics an African American was cheering on a random black athlete representing the UK against a random white American, that would be seen as racism also.
I view Lin as a Chinese/Taiwanese American...not just Asian American. I won't support any Japanese or Korean American basketball player that much tbh. I would be curious about their games too but I wouldn't sign up to a forum to talk about their games and argue with some sorta "haters". I wouldn't even watch their games on live.
Funny how all of you ignored the part (in CometsWin's post) where Dirk fans and other player fans don't use racism, conspiracy theories, lies and more lies to attack others and make excuses for those athletes unlike the delusional, idiotic Lin fans.
It's only idiotic when Asians cry racism. Black people can cry racism in sports all day long (e.g. black QBs, head coaches, gm's, etc. not getting a chance) and it's acceptable. Is it possible that those black QBs or head coaches just aren't good/smart enough to win a super bowl? Is it racist to say that?
Lol at you having critical thinking abilities and not being biased and narrow- minded. I almost felt I was being punk'd when I read this post. Stick to the white knighting. That's all you are cut out for (outside of lying about what you do in NY to strangers on the internet)
Lin fans are worst fans of any race, nationality, or gender. They are clearly not basketball fans. That's why on any basketball board people dislike their presence. They are clutching to linsanity, which in real terms is called a 3 week streak as if it was a mvp season. the fact that there is a user who can't comprehend what james harden is doing now is more significant in basketball relevance proves my point.
They are far and away the worst group I've seen in any sport. I don't even refer to them as fans anymore as they are more aptly compared to stalkers. Their infatuation with a back up (would be third string had Price not gotten hurt) player is not normal by any means. Delusional doesn't even come close to describing it. I honestly feel bad for the vast majority of them and hope they don't reproduce.
James Harden is a better player than Jeremy Lin doesn't meant his excitement brought to us ever close to Linsanity. Can you see the difference or you are just trying to be annoying and be felt existence by teasing everything about Jeremy Lin?
So obvious....German blue eye blonde hair Dirk stans and Yankee Phelps Phans dare not play the race card...they're the last on that list. Bad comparison. In fact, they are the ones on the other end of the accusations. Can't blame them for being salty that they can't use the race card. It probably makes them hate minorities even more, which makes the others cry racism more....the endless cycle. There are moments that raise the red flag regarding Jeremy Lin, it makes you wonder "why would they decide to do that?" or "would anyone else get treated like that?" It stands out like a brother at a beach. These little nuance are something most minorities know or have experienced...not just basketball but in life.
Show me one post where I have ever mentioned that. When you can't I will still be here laughing at you and your weird obsession with a scrub NBA player.
People can support whoever they want. If the Asians want to support Lin, fine. But don't pretend he is better than he is. Almost every available metric says he sucks. +/- sucks, PER sucks, ppg, apg, to, ALL SUCK. I was a fan of Ricky Hatton. I voted for him to beat the crap out of Manny. But I'm not standing here telling you, Hatton was robbed because he was beat by a steroid user. He lost and I accept it. Lin sucks and Asians should accept that
