Probably not, since there's alot of athletes who "Thanks God" first and foremost, in every sport. I think the main gripe a lot of posters here have is a mediocre Asian-American basketball player having alot of Asian fans "living vicariously" through him. For some reason it bothers them. I don't know how that's more "vicariously living through someone" than German basketball fans who like Dirk, or Americans rooting for Michael Phelps and watching swimming, only once out of every 4 years.
You are paraphrasing your countless view of his videos. Does not make it a fact. The NBA tests him...the NBA tests everybody...what's your point Captain Obvious. tsk...neither here nor there.

Germans and Americans don't support Nowitzki and Phelps because of race and they don't use race to attack others and make excuses for those athletes. Their fans are also not infamous for being ignorant and obnoxious to a such an unbearable level that they have a nickname. Your analogy is dumb but not unexpected of course.
So blindly supporting based on being from the same nationality is acceptable, but being of the same race, religion, or gender; is not ok? So you're going to tell people who they can and cannot like? People don't really CHOOSE who they like or don't like. They just DO. Nobody makes a conscious decision to like someone. That's not real life. It's human nature for people to gravitate towards people who are similar to them. And supporting those who have similar traits as them, particularly in arenas/industries where they have long been a minority; is totally natural and normal. Do you not think Hillary Clinton has a lot of women supporters? Are they "living vicariously" through her? No, they have their own lives. But they want her to do well, because they can relate. Let me ask you, philosophically what is the difference between an avid basketball fan in Germany, who grew up watching Jordan as a kid, whose favorite player became Dirk when he joined the league; and an Asian American basketball fan, who also grew up watching Jordan in the 90's, supports Lin and became a fan of his when he joined the league?
One is a 7 foot, blond haired hall of famer. Jokes aside, it would be very entertaining if sanity emerged and brought the Lakers more misfortune.
Absolutely incorrect. I've got Germans mates who expect you to know they go Dirk precisely because they're german. The difference is the flood of fans calling teammates and coaches racists online nobody has the right to tell anybody who they can support as long as they're reasonable in their evaluation of said athlete. Talent level is irrelevant as well, root for someone cause they went to the same college is not irrational, saying someone is better than sliced bread when they're clearly not though simply because the went to the same college is howevever What does it matter if I root for GGG because he's half asian (I dont) not as long as Im reasonable in evaluation of his talent? also GGG could **** up cotto and Canelo on the same day and there ain't no doubt about it
There's nothing biased, narrow-minded people hate more than intellectually honest critical thinking. Lmao
So they cheer for him because he's German and not because he's white? Got it. I'm not going to tell anyone you can't cheer for an Asian simply because you're Asian too but it comes off as pretty freaking stupid when an ignorant gang of Asian fans that frankly don't know much about basketball and support Lin because he's Asian start accusing people of racism. Look in the mirror clowns.
It's human nature to blindly support people based on race? Explains your performance in this thread and others certainly. Clinton certainly has female supporters that are sexist and vote for her because she's a woman but she also has female supporters that vote for her because as a woman she has a better insight on issues that affect women. Those aren't the same things. Supporting Dirk because you're German is patriotism. They would cheer for him if he were white, Asian, or anything else. If you want to deride patriotism in a sports context then go ahead. Really you want to have it both ways. You want to claim detractors of Lin are racist and Asian supporters of Lin that have flooded out of the woodwork aren't racist despite it being pretty clear that race is the only reason they're invested in him.
I have a lot of Asian mates who know a lot about basketball (some are Lin fans, some aren't)...so does the fact that they are a certain race make them ignorant about a certain sport?
1) Um.. I did not say that.. I said: So blindly supporting based on being from the same nationality is acceptable, but being of the same race, religion, or gender; is not ok? Why is one acceptable to you, and others are not? There are many different reasons why people like the things they do, each subjective. And no it isn't human nature to blindly support people based on race OR nationality. It is human nature to relate to those who are similar to you, however. 2) So by following your logic, Black Obama supporters = racist? 3) When I said: philosophically what is the difference between an avid basketball fan in Germany, who grew up watching Jordan as a kid, whose favorite player became Dirk when he joined the league; and an Asian American basketball fan, who also grew up watching Jordan in the 90's, supports Lin and became a fan of his when he joined the league? At the core of it, the German kid is not thinking "I'm so proud to be German," he is thinking, "That guy is German, Like Me". Just as the Asian American kid would say about an Asian American basketball player in the NBA. It's not so much patriotism, as it is about the ability to relate and having something in common. No German player has made the impact that Dirk did in the NBA. And no Asian American player has even made the NBA before. It isn't far-fetched a fan in Germany who loves basketball, will root for Dirk to do well. Just like an Asian American who loves basketball, will root for another Asian American to do well.
Let me tell you what I feel like... If there are 10 good Chinese/Taiwanese/Hongkongese PGs playing in the league now and most of them are drafted... I would still be a Lin fan solely because... Linderella did happen.
