So you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is, but you're espousing a "you're either with us or against us" perspective, got it, thanks. I'll give you credit for at least admitting you're a blind homer.
He does not need to go, but he needs to be held accountable if his methodologies are not moving the needle towards championship contender. Morey is a smart guy, he is also a humble guy, so I would expect that he is learning new things every day on the job and probably regrets getting Terrance Williams for a first, or letting Dragic go, or Lowry, or a bunch of people. But with DMo he stuck with him, and this is the first developmental guy that he seems to be keen to keep - that shows progress. Now if we could just flip Ariza again. DD
DM is not perfect and he has made mistakes IMO. Having said that, you don't get rid of a GM that creates a 50+ win team in the toughest conference by far in the NBA. Not resigning Dragic was a huge mistake IMO but the way he rebuilt the team into a contender without ever having a losing season, even after Dwight & Yao went out, is amazing. Consistently finding high value players in the 2nd round has been amazing. Daryl Morey is not perfect but he is certainly not overrated.
DM is smart in bringing in the right players for the game model, but he's lacking in the building championship process. He'd be equivalent to the kind of entrepreneurs who are great in starting a business, but not expanding them. They'd find the right idea and set pieces to make a formula for a successful business, but can never really expand the idea to make it a big business. Pop on the other hand understands how to adapt to analytics, bring in the right player, and build around them and sustain the team for a championship contention. To be frank, we are severely lacking in chemistry and it really shows when we face up against teams who had been together for a good long time. If it wasn't for Harden's consistent carry, we'd have nothing.
You don't get rid of Morey, but you hold him accountable and hope he improves. Specifically in the over-analytic department and pulling the strings when it comes to coaching etc.
Out of curiosity, how would one determine whether he's "analyzing" vs. "over-analyzing" and how much he's "helping the coaching staff" vs. "taking over the coaching staff?" Is it just a "feel" thing based on your personal judgment? Or should we go by team success/failure? If it's the former, then clearly Morey would never appease every single fan. If it's the latter, how should one objectively determine the Rockets level of success should be?
Seems we should start holding Maury accountable now, 3rd best record, 5 game home stand with Howard out. Y U no get championships Maury, statistics don't work
Not only the OP...but just read some of the stupid comments attempting to support the "DM should be fired" case. Most laughable is the Canaan stuff. There is even a flip Ariza post, LOL. Amazing lack of basketball IQ on display.
like the offseason wasnt bad enough. Now we are setting ourselves for a possible biggest disappointment of all time if we flame out in the playoffs. Stay humble my friends
To the people focusing on mistakes, every successful person becomes successful while making mistakes. You can't be 100% risk averse and expect to come out ahead. There were some dark ages towards the end of the Yao/TMac era, and to come where we have so quickly AND in the way it was done (constant tinkering and flipping) is impressive. However I know there are those that say the Harden trade was just luck and any GM could have done that, etc etc. This bus is going to continue to drive in circles.
