Perhaps this should go in the D & D, and I know that just because you’re in Houston doesn’t mean you listen to country music, wear a cowboy hat or drive a truck. Except maybe the truck. But that’s different. It’s a cool truck. And you need it for work. Or for hauling stuff. Or…I digress… Need your help. I want some country music. For me. (love the anonymity of this board). Just a couple of CD’s. And I want COUNTRY!!! Full out twang. Songs about drinking, and fighting, and going to jail, and losing jobs, and being messed up by girls. Songs you expect to hear at the trailer park. Places that believe wrestling is real and Elvis is still alive. Stuff you might never admit to owning, but may have heard a ‘friend’ play once. So help me out. What are they playing at the Honky Tonks?? (Not that you’d know first-hand, or anything). Not the Garth Books, Alan Jackson stuff them yuppies listen to in their tricked out ess-yiu-vee’s but real good ol’ boy stuff. Any ideas??
Sure, but first you need to do sumthin fer us....spit......now turn around and squeal like a pig.......
Try some david allen coe, robert earl keen, Johnny Cash, or Waylan Jennings. Thats should more than fill your, uh, 'needs'.
Dwight Yoakum and Aaron Tippin but I can only speak for their 90's stuff. Also Chris Ledoux, was a bull rider on the pro circuit turned country singer.
Bocephus is cool; I'd also suggest: Merle Haggard: My Salute to Bob Wills Johnny Cash: At Folsum Prison The Essential Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys Hank Williams Sr.: The Ultimate Collection And it's not really country so much, but that's where it gets radio play-- Alison Krauss and Union Station: Live How can anyone with a soul listen to this woman sing "Ghost in this house" and not fall in love with her?
No offense Pole, but for some reason, one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone refers to Hank Williams, Jr. as Bocephus. I understand why they do it, but it still annoys me. Just thought I'd share. If you really want redneck music, look no further than David Allen Coe. If you're easily offended, maybe not.
I listen to all kinds of music, but all in all, there's something special here and there about popping in the George Strait "Strait Out of the Box" Box set, downing a couple of beers, and chilling on the porch. So, that's my two cents. George Strait Box Set.
Robert Earl Keen (the live album) Waylon Jennings Johnny Cash Pat Green Merl Haggard Jerry Jeff Walker Willie Nelson (non-pop stuff) Jack Ingram Cory Morrow Charlie and/or Bruce Robison Hank Williams Sr. and/or Jr. Patsy Cline old school Dolly Parton (the essential dolly parton 1 and 2) Jim Reeves Loretta Lynn Tammy Wynette George Jones Just to name a few.
Most all of the above are later, derivitive artist. Since you're not a redneck but want the real country experience go back to The Grand Ole Opry years. That music just oozes rhinstones. Jimmy Rogers, George Jones, Miss Tammy Wynett, Earnest Tubb(my Mom's first boyfriend), Ferlin Husky (what a great name) Conway Twitty, Lefty Frizzel. I can't stand that crap anymore but I guess that's the stuff your looking for. Heck , just get you a Ktel Best Of The Grand Ole OPry collection. 200 songs on 2 big cassetes only Only two easy payments each of : $19.95
That makes me really curious. I know you said "for some reason" which usually means "for some reason I'm not really sure of," but why would it bother you? If you can't really articulate it, I understand, but you sure have my curiosity aroused.
Hank Williams Jr. is a must. He's about the most outrageous of the country music performers along with that filthy b*stard David Allan Coe. Is this country music thing like a costume along with your truck?
No idea. It probably harkens back to some drunken college party and some annoying guy was screaming it, so it someout waded through the intoxication to settle in by subconscious. That's why I said no offense.
Profile For bnb Location Vancouver, Canada_ pfft figures... Yall liss'n here. I'aint cyear fer the fact that yall year insutain that weunz year all back woods bumpkins. Ay, ya hoser!! Just joking. The fact is I have never listened to country music aside from the stuff that Granddad listened to in his truck on our way to go fishin'. Wish I could help you out, but I just kain't. Funniest part is, I am a 5th generation Texan. And I don't have an accent. No really. When we travel people can NEVER pinpoint where I am from.
Why is he called Bosephus? I had never even heard him called that until I saw an SNL skit with Farley as Hank doing the Monday Night Football themes for the season.
