Miami's "tradeable" players

RealGM says that Ceballos and AC Green can't be traded until Jan 25 and Jan 31, respectively. Ceballos can be traded as part of a 1-for-1 (not that this would happen). But a multi-team swap? Not just yet.

If Miami and Houston are talking deal, with Hakeem not going to Miami as they claim---who knows what's true?---but, rather, "other" players being involved to the tune of $10 million....
AC Green + Ceballos + Majerle equal 10 million-ish bucks.

I'm still clinging to my fantasy of getting Reef and moving Reeves to Miami for players we subsequently waive so they can go back to Miami or wherever.

Mason wouldn't be involved because he would lose Bird rights and if anyone deserves to keep'em, he's the man. Majerle's just about spent. AC Green? The same. Ceballos? I never hear of him playing. So these last 3 need not worry too much about losing Bird rights; they won't get more than a mid-level exception next year, anyway.

Of course, Walt + Cato nearly equal 10 million, if we want only to move out cap space. But Cato's BYC makes this difficult, at best.

Just musing, but this might cause a holdup in a trade. I do not think Hakeem will stay and I do not want to waive him if we can get a nice return. Perhaps this hold-up is the cause of his frustration; he doesn't know precisely what's being bartered (like the rest of us, I suppose).

Please don't say Hakeem will just stay with the Rockets. He's put this past the point of no return.

We are not trading with Miami. Hakeem wont get traded. He will be waived and thats it.

Hakeem will never be seen in a rockets uni ever again. He has played his last game already. Hes outta here, finish , done, end, thats all folks.

THE DREAM IS GONE! IT HAS TURNED TO A NIGHTMARE!!!!!

THANK YOU RUDY FOR UNDERSTANDING HAKEEM AND NOW FINALLY HE IS OUT OF HERE!

    I would want Miami's pick.

The NBA draft is a hit miss thing. Four picks this year would be sweet.

Funny, the heart of this franchise for so many years is leaving on less than favorable terms, and the thing you feel is joy?

I hoped to see Dream end his carrer in the pj's. Egos and economics, it would seem, are not going to let that happen.

How about Cato/Walt to Miami for Majerle/Ceballos/Davis. We then waive Dream with the prearranged agreement of Dream signing with Miami for the minimum. That way we still keep Dreams salary relief for next year, we get two players whose contracts expire after this year, & a promising young SF. We'd be a major player in the FA market next year & Doc Rocket did indicate that the Rockets will make a push for Webber. We could even make a push for Mutumbo or Finley.

It's sad to think that we've seen the last of the greatest rocket ever.

Hottoddie, I was thinking of a similar deal but RealGM wasnt going through yesterday (I had Green instead of Davis). I finally got it to work this morning but it declined the deal. The main sticking point is Cato's BYC. The more likely scenario I think would be to move Williams/Rogers to Miami for Green/Majerle or something along those lines then go forth with the pre-arranged waiving of Hakeem and signing with Miami.

This scenario will atleast yield the Rockets another 7 mil of cap space and over 20 mil to pursue free agents. Even if they do sign Webber for his max (12.5 mil or so), they would still have a significant chunk for other purposes ie. pursue a free agent center, sign a rebounder or re-sign Mo Taylor.

Since there is no real way to trade dream to the heat, the best solution if he really wants to leave so badly is something like hottoddie proposed.I tried this and find it the best case scenario:

houston trades: Walt Williams $4,250,000 to miami
    TOTAL: $4,250,000

miami trades: Dan Majerle $4,050,000 to houston
miami trades: Ricky Davis $939,360 to houston
    miami trades: 1st round draft pick(this year's)
    TOTAL: $4,989,360

    Trade accepted

We could trade cato(As said before it's difficult due to the BYC rules),but we just cant afford having collier as our only center.Cato has'nt earned s**t of his huge contract but he's potential is still there and atleast he can block some shots(We need interior defence BADLY,look how well shaq did last night). With this trade we get rid of walt and since we are starting shandon at the 3,we can have davis as the new back-up SG.We also increase our cap-space and could become a great team once again in some time.

    Proposed line-up:

    2000-2001
    c-Cato/Collier
    pf-Mo/Kt/Crog
    sf-shan/majerle/bull/lanki
    sg-cat/davis
    pg-wink/mooch

next year:we can trade some unwanted players for picks to increase(or trade picks for some higher ones) the count(5),we resign mo,shan and mooch and have enough money to go for one or two FA's

    Rocket Guard,

Your scenario makes more sense than mine, since all Miami wants is a rent-a-center for this year. However, if ZO is unable to make a return, then my scenario would make more sense. Only Miami knows for sure if ZO will make it back or not. If they're not sure, then trading for Cato would offer them insurance & they could always trade him later. I assume that in your scenario, that it also means waiving Dream? As far as us not having a true center, well, we've been playing without one for a while now. I say, throw Collier in & let him learn the hard way. We could also pick up Washington or bring back Pig.

Another option that I don't believe anyone has proposed (maybe for obvious reasons), would be to trade Cato/Walt to Vancouver for Reeves. He's not a dominant center, but would provide adequate skills for us. I haven't seen him play much, so I'm not sure if he would help or hurt the team. At least he's healthy & comes to play. The salary would be a wash & Vancouver would've broken up his salary, which might make it easier for them to package some players in trades to reduce their salary.

Another option would be to trade Cato to Chicago for Miller. They're not playing him much anyway. We reduce salary by $1.3 million & once again, get a center that is healthy enough to play every night.

Sure you can. If he wanted to come after you, he'd sprain his ankle or break a nail before he got there. [IMG]

He'd probably blow a gasket also & start leaking oil.

I've got a question for you The Cat. Do you have some kind of program running that automatically pages you everytime someone posts something negative about Collier or Langhi? Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool that you stand up for them & I totally agree with you. I just crack up everytime I read a negative comment about them, because I can count on seeing a response from you, usually within 2-3 posts afterwards. [IMG]

I wish Rudy would plug Collier into the lineup right now & let him learn the position this year. I also wish he would get Langhi into the rotation as well. Langhi, for a man as tall as he is, is quick as a hic-up & appears to have springs in his legs similar to Francis. He's definately not afraid to get the ball & do something with it. What I'm concerned about is that all the other teams will send spys to Houston, just to see who Rudy's giving tryouts for, if this keeps up. Maybe we should trade all our #1 picks & load up on #2's. MManal,

The scenario that I proposed worked according to RealGM. To make the deal work, it used some of the trade exception that we currently have. The deal is pure speculation on my part. I don't know that Miami would even consider it, but Doc Rocket did mention that the Cato injury might throw a monkey wrench into the "hand shake deal".

By the way, does anyone know if the deal is still out there or did it fall through? Neither Doc Rocket or Clutch will answer the question. The only thing that has happened for sure is that Dream went public again, but with a little more force this time.
