Why are people so hell-bent on ensuring that their students learn the least in the country?

At least Oklahoma has good basketball teams, between the Thunder and Mavericks.

Well folks, it's Oklahoma. Can't say I'm surprised. Heck, they're trying hard to keep up with the Republican controlled Texas Legislature. Right now? They're neck and neck when it comes to Stupid.

I think it's actually part of a clever plot to make their public education so bad that voters will be begging for a voucher system that will let them send their kids to private schools.

The kids who take AP US History don't give a rat's ass about the politics surrounding "American Exceptionalism"

I went in looking to make a 5, pump up my college application and nothing else

Yep, exactly the reason that I took AP history.

Funny how many (most?) would argue that high school US History is too lax in its criticism of the United States, and instead focuses on things that are not terribly important in the grand scheme of American history.

Wait... There are kids in Oklahoma that take AP classes?

I kid, I kid. Even the ****tiest states have some lone bright spots.

Is this any different than dictators such as Kim Jong-Un editing their respective history books with revisionist history in order to indoctrinate their youth?

Question -- if this is so obviously reprehensible that none of the hopelessly indoctrinated Republicans we have on this board are willing to defend it, how is it that there is enough support within the Republican party to make terribly shameful actions like this into policy?

That is really a shameful thing to do. The attack on education is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen.

Pretty stupid legislation and honestly surprised at how it gained any traction to go that far, but then again it's Oklahoma.

This is the same place that covered up what they did to the Black Wall Street... Many people in this country don't even know what happened in Greenwood because of the cover up. So this is no surprise.

I feel sorry for the teachers who have to deal with this crap. 'No, you're teaching your kids to be cynical about America. You should instead be telling them about how Americans are better than everybody else!' And, if not that than just the opposite: 'Stop brainwashing these kids to think America is so damn great. Genocide, slavery, imperialism, etc, etc.' I wish we could just let teachers teach.
