Perhaps a la rockets will be the only other person on the BBS to appreciate this thread, but -- as a French-American myself -- I wanted to wish everyone a happy Bastille Day. Last time I was in France on Bastille Day (which was a while ago now), we all lit torches and paraded around town (it was a small town) until we reached the church. Then, we watched fireworks. I can't imagine a whole mob of people in the US carrying torches in any sort of civic-sanctioned event. There'd be lawsuits till doomsday. Vive la Revolution!
I even had a French class this morning (I'm learning French, mostly in a probably vain attempt to impress a woman), and no one mentioned it was Bastille Day.
i remember my world history teacher in high school played Bastille Day by Rush for us while studying French history.
Happy Bastille Day! And a Kazakhstanian(?) won the stage at the Tour de France today and an American (the U.S. kind!) still holds the yellow jersey. Closest French rider is Christophe Moreau in 14th place 03:34 down.
