I think you are kind of proving my point. They want Dmo + (insert NOP pick, other picks, Capela/Jones/Papa/Fillers). Thus, they value Dragic more than Dmo. I don't even read reddit, but I am willing to bank on that.

This is looking like Amare 2010 all over again for them.

Goran is better than D-Mo, but Goran is almost certain to opt out. If Dwight was healthy, it would be easier to trade D-Mo for him.

Agree. And Goran makes your team better at a position of need, but yes he could possibly opt out and DW would have to be healthy for sure no matter who they acquire.

Filling a position of need while creating a new position of need would be a bad idea. That really should be /thead

Dragic only played one season on that level. One can argue that he's playing out of position this season. But it is still risky to rate him as a "3rd team All-NBA" caliber player based on one season's performance.

    Remember Mike James?

It's going to take the NO pick plus some of what you mentioned, but props for the Nick vid - he's deceptively quite brilliant.

So much desperation. The Suns need a star and tying up money in three pgs is beyond stupid.

The Knicks offered Amare more years because the Suns medical staff knew his knees were going to explode, and this was also when S&Ts could give you bird rights money. I don't see how they don't keep him as long as they're willing to pay up. Giving Dragic 15mil+ seems extreme, but with a huge cap raise on the horizon, might not be crazy.

How do u figure? Replacing DMO with TJ and Smith off the bench is a new hole. LOL

Absolutely. When Jones is your starting PF, you have a hole at starting PF. It's the same as how we have Beverley starting at PG but we have a hole at starting PG.

After Smith got comfortable, who has had more impact?

Smith has had a better defensive presence (with a track record of elite defense) and is doing well as a secondary play maker, miles better than Dmo. He is already shooting from the outside better than Dmo, and has a more physical presence in the paint. And he has been incorporated on the fly. All Dmo does better is a post game. I think you take an objective look, which you haven't been doing:

I think you need a new role model, because DMo is only going to disappoint your extreme expectations.

Although I understand, it's not the first time CF has fallen in love with a role player, and it sure won't be the last:

When did Mike James make an All-NBA team? Also, when was Mike James the top dog on a team with an actual winning record? Had he ever been top dog? (no). Dragic is a 3rd team All-NBA caliber player because he made the 3rd team All-NBA.

Dragic broke out with the Rockets: we saw it first-hand. Then he plays well for Phoenix, for the 3rd year straight? Mike James never did that. His numbers are still good, despite playing with two ball dominant guards, and out of position. Playing out of position makes him underutilized, further boosting the value of his numbers (degree of difficulty).

I'm not sure why people are against DMo for Goran. DMo is a good player but his breakout games (let's say over 16 points) are not very impressive opponent wise:

SAC, MIL, GS, Den, Den, NY, BKN, BOS, DET

Only 1 of those teams makes me even slightly nervous in a 7 game series. Meaning, DMo is having big impact when teams are soft.

Lets look at Goran and set the breakout games to over 18 because he's not the defensive player that DMo is:

SAC, GS, LAC, BOS, DEN, ORL, IND, DAL, CHA, DAL, LAL, NO, OKC, MIN, MIN, LAL, WSH, CHI, HOU

Nine of those games would worry me. Goran is a big game player. DMo, as of today, is not.

I would do this even for a 1 year rental. Those 7 footers are overpaid and I don't want an overpaid player on my team in 2 years when I can potentially win a lot in the playoffs this year.

Going all in when Dwight has gimpy knees for a player that can opt out at the end of the year is not smart.

If you can get Dragic without giving up any rotational players - great, otherwise, pass.

Dragic does not guarantee anything, not even the 2nd round, and he and Smith are probably gone after this year, add in Howard declining and you have scrubs and Harden left, how soon until James wants to leave then?

    Go after Goran, keep DMo.

If you need guarantees to do something, and assume that everyone plans to leave, there's really no point doing anything because you've already admitted defeat

    1. If I knew Goran would sign for $70 million over 5 years or $55 million over 4 years....then I'd consider trading DMo and keeping the Pels pick.

    2. If I knew Goran would delay signing a max deal until after the 2015-16 season then I'd consider trading DMo and keeping the Pels pick.

Both of these scenarios give us the ability to be players in free agency in 2016 and leave us with tradeable assets with our picks. In other words, we acquire Dragic without going all-in.
