Stein on the BS Report: Probably not relevant as it was done yesterday Trade tidbits? We just reported that the Rockets & Lakers will test Phoenix's resolve with Dragic. I can't see them trading Dragic but they have to think about it. If he's gonna be leave, they don't have that answer, if you're gonna lose him, you have to listen. Rockets, Lakers & other teams will try again. What do the Lakers have to offer? What does anyone have to offer? What are you offering for a guy who can walk? You gotta be sure you can keep him. In a trade season where I think we fear the best names have already moved, I'd rather read about Dragic. Ty Lawson? Don't think Denver is willing to move him. Lawson, Nurkic, Faried and Chandler, those four are off the table. Chandler could be had but they want a lot. BS: With respect to your reporting, everyone is on that team is available but Nurkic. Lawson is 50/50 to go and Faried you can get for the right offer. That team wants to clean house and get picks. I don't see anyone trading for Faried. I don't know about Lawson. They have to keep someone. Why would you trade Lawson? BS: You trade him if you get a good offer. A young PG back and a pick. He's a good PG on reasonable money. BS: He's fairly paid. Faried needs a change of scenery. Maybe he gets a new coach and that's the change of scenery.
http://espn.go.com/espnradio/grantland/player?id=12325759 Marc Stein and Zach Lowe went on the latest BS Report. Other than the part JR quoted above, not a whole lot of Rockets discussion otherwise: Simmons speculated to Lowe about Dwight Howard being traded because Simmons doesn't think Dwight is at the same level any more, Lowe doesn't think it's at all likely. They agree that Daryl will trade even his own children to win a title. They also briefly discussed Howard Beck's report about the Jeremy Lin return. Lowe says Lin just isn't all that exciting. Simmons thinks "Linsanity" sitll has a chance. Simmons and Lowe ultimately agree that signing Lin for something like $3M would be just fine but isn't something that really moves the needle.
I got all that too. Spoiler BS: What is it with Daryl, always wants to get back together, like the guy who broke up with girlfriends and keeps in touch on Facebook. ZL: What does Jeremy Lin...Lin is not exciting. It's a slow steady Laker infested decline. Next year, what are you paying? BS: $3 million a year. ZL: That's fine but you don't plan your life around I need to get Jeremy Lin for $3 million. ************************ BS: What would it take to get Boogie Cousins? ZL: I will say this, that's not a ridiculous question. Teams are asking themselves that question. Good young player, minimum 2 first round picks plus whatever else. Teams are having discussions. Sacramento isn't taking calls but I think a smart, proactive team would call and say here is a Godfather offer. BS: He can sabotage his way out of there. At some point it's time to go. Either they do right by him the rest of this season or he could get out of there. I like him. If he's happy, he's top 10. ZL: He's only been happy for a brief stretch. BS: Pickup game, he's picked in the first 10 or 11 picks. One side takes Gasol, the other side takes Boogie. Dwight's out. He's in a different phase of his career. Stuff happens. Centers do not age well. 22 and 14 four years ago. 3 blocks. Now he has knee issues, shoulder issues, back issues, 900 games on his odometer. ZL: The timetable on the Houston team, Howard & Harden, may not be open as long as they hoped. Harden is insane this year. BS: Would you be dumbfouned if Dwight wasn't on the Rockets in two weeks? ZL: Yeah. BS: Dumbfounded if he wasn't on the Rockets in July? ZL: No. BS: I feel like Daryl would trade his kids. He wants to win the title. ZL: We know he doesn't care. He put Lin's number on Carmelo and it became a national story. BS: Dork Elvis has feuded or hurt 9 people's feelings over the last year. He's like the notorious BIG of the NBA. ... Wanna talk ddvanced metrics thing? It was weird. I enjoyed 40% of it. They were having fun with it. When you make your point that analytics don't win championships and two of the last four champions won partly because of analytics, that hurts your argument. ZL: He doesn't know what he's talking about. When you say what analytics do the Spurs have? The answer is like the second largest department behind Houston. His general point, you can have all the analytics you want, if you don't have one or two top ten players, it's like no crap. There have been zero people who have said I can win just with analytics. No one has said that. It's a strawman argument. Morey, king of analytics, has been saying for 3-4 years everything we're doing is trying to get a superstar. He doesn't know what he's talking about. BS: Then he said, if you get James Harden...they got Harden because he picked up all these assets because he's really smart and packaged..they used analytics to get all the assets they used for the James Harden trade. So it's not like Hey, we stumbled into James Harden! It was a series of decisions led to that. ZL: I wish the word analytics had never been invented. Analytics should be called being smart. Analytics is salary analysis, projections of players, valuing draft picks vs. players and thinking Lowry is really good but the draft pick we get for him will be more valuable in our quest to get a superstar. It's looking at James Harden and realizing how good he was, even when he was coming off the bench. There were some teams that didn't think Harden was this good. I can't address what Barkley said. BS: I knew he was good when he destroyed the Spurs. ZL: It always comes back to Harden. ************************ BS: Harden can take a team that should go 28-54 and win 50 games with it. Look around on that Houston team. ZL: That was the Houston team before they got Dwight. BS: Right now without Dwight, he's winning 70% of his games. ZL: Right now, the way he's playing is unbelievable. He has surpassed Anthony Davis in my MVP rankings. BS: He was MVP all season, never wavered. When they went 17-4 with a tough schedule,...he does the most for his team, which is the MVP right? Their whole offense revolves around him. ZL: He must be in insane shape this year. The way he played defense last year, and you'll see it a couple of times in games now, you always see it when he's played 15 consectuve minutes carrying their offense, he'll take a defensive possession off. He must be in insane shape. BS: I can tell he wasn't in shape when he was bent over in the playoffs, like old guy in the pickup games. He looks in great shape this year. ************************ Rondo for Mavs? Definitely on the bumpy side. Mavs had to do it. It was a 7/10. You still do it. ... No matter how bumpy in the regular season, in the playoffs, don't you want Rondo instead of Nelson? It was never an over the top move. You still gotta do it. [And the aforementioned Nuggets talk]
I hate people that say "you have reading comprehension problems". its a common insult you see on YouTube or something from trolls and it leads to people thinking it's such a sophisticated insult and they just itch to say it to other people
Honestly, anyone at least Jose Calderon level of either passing or scoring would help this team tremendously. Would be somewhat deflating if we don't get a Gogi or Lawson, but if we can get anyone at least that caliber would help big time.
Bragging? lol. I am working as an ultrasound tech making 1/3 of my original salary as an attorney, by choice. It is good living now, but if money was my thing, I would have stuck to the legal profession. How is that for bragging. This is my last response to what has been essentially a waste of bandwidth to a simple observation.
While I think Bill Simmons aptly says a lot of BS, I do really credit him for being one of if not the first mainstream writers to judge players by their “value” rather than production or ranking. It’s something most fans and writers alike never think about.
That's a sweeping generalization...... Perhaps you just hate sweeping generalizations, not the people that use them....
