It seems like the consensus on this board is that Mobley doesn't really fit the long term plan for the rockets. Should they keep him for a wile yet or trade him now when he is still (relatively) young? And what could he realistically bring in return when all Cassell brought for the Bucks was Joe Smith?

I think that they should trade him for a defensive-minded guard (shooting or point). Or possibly they could put together a package with more of their players for a star quality forward. I bet they could get Shareef but would he be worth it? Rasheed would be a great fit but it doesn't seem like the Blazers want to deal him. Maggette would be a good guard but who knows what the clippers are up to.

Actually, getting rid of Mobley would probably help the Rockets regardless of who they got in return. Him and stevie seem to bring out the worst in each other and neither plays that well with Yao. Trading Mobley would serve as a wake-up call to Francis.

i don't think that's the consensus. There are a lot of people who are in favor of keeping Mobley as well at least for the time being to see how he fits in with the new offense.

Uhh.... First this board don't decide crap. Second I want Mobes bad. His is value. If he had a Kobe like contract I would want to get rid of his a$$ like the clap. But he doesn't, he scores alot for a little, so keep him. He is loyal, he causes no trouble, and he gets along with our backcourt stud and team leader. Besides, the dude is still young... let him spend his prime with us.

All mobes needs is some help from his teamates. Mobes does his job, puts the ball in the hole.

Mobley is easily the most gifted scorer on the team. He is also an extreemly underrated defender capeable of putting the clamps on some of the top sg's in the league. All those who are in favor of trading him seem to want to trade him for another sg considered solely a defender or a shooter but we allready have that in Cat, and at a very low price. I understand that people may not like the way he dissrupts the offense with his bursts into the lane and his poor decision making but at the least, we can transform him into a good spot up shooter and a good defender. There is simply too much talent to give him up for a worse sg. The only way I even consider trading him is if he is part of a deal for a better big man like Elton Brand. That is simply because good big men are harder to come by than good guards.

Steve begged Mobley to stay and sign with Houston.. and now we wanna move him out? Keep Mobley, but throw him in the sixth man.. he's better that way!

I can't stand Mobely and packed his bags two years ago. There is no greater evil in the entire NBA than that sack of garbage. He is the creeping contagion that infects the team body and kills it from within. He will never play the team game and never be a winner. Mobely lovers are "me first" lovers. Mobely is the only man in America that can't see a 7'5'' Chinese center under the basket. He has the vision and judgement of a screaming toddler standing in a grocery cart. He could play for free and still be a cancer. Trade him asap if you want to win anything.

Ok, so that was just a spittle-infused post of blind hatred. Take it with salt. Y'all were getting a little carried away, too, it set me off.

I really want to keep Cuttino. Like they've said, he doesn't take up much cap space, but he still gives you 20 points a night. Again though, let's see how he plays under a new coach before we rush into things.

Keep him...at least for now. He is a definite bargain. Name one player equal in shooting quality and price.

    You’re a moron.

It used to be funny how people would jump on this Mobley hating bandwagon and lump the sum total of the team's woes on his shoulders. It was stupid, but funny. Now it's gotten so ridiculous that the whole "fraternity" is a caricature of it's former self.

You're all a bunch of idiots, and the sad thing is that we'll never be able to fill his position with even half his talent for the money he's being paid. It saddens me to think that he might be gone and you guys will still be around......feeding us all your "wisdom."

Cuttino Mobley is very skilled. He can do pretty much anything he wants. With a new coach and a completely overhauled offensive and defensive system everyone should expect a completely different attitude from him. I get tired of all the bashing as well, the team already has it's three big time scoring options which includes Cuttino.

JVG is a completely different coach than Rudy T. The same things Mobley did last year won't be tolerated this year. He will have to alter his ways to succeed and i know he will. Plus for 5 million a year you can't get a better player unless your the Lakers.

I am not a Mobley hater, I love his attitude (especially on defense the last quarter of the season), I love his scoring, and I love his contract.

I do believe that he needs to be the 6th man of the year next year to give our second unit some serious scoring along with MoT. Francis and Yao on the first team and Mobley and Taylor off the bench is a pretty powerful one-two scoring punch. There is no way to get another player of his caliber to play for the (relative) peanuts he makes.

if the rockets had Cato,Taylor and Mobley coming off the bench the rockets would have one of the best 2nd units.

Cato - played hard last year coming off the bench, rebounds/blocked shots

Taylor - clutch scorer in the 4th

Cuttino - can do pretty much anything

    Like i said ;)

If the starters can't start an offense in a game, send Mobley in for that quick offense .. Maurice can't do it all by himself on the bench (thats if he is on the bench this year). Mobley may be crazy and does his own thing but that can be good when you need an offensive threat when your starters can't do jack. So keep him on the bench pleeaseee.

    jvg u suck

Why would you want to put Cat on the bench when he was our 2nd most productive player behind Steve, and that was on bad anckels most of the year.

Once again, he has changed his role every year and people say he is selfish and unable to change.

He is our most clutch player and consitantly gets to the line and finishes. People blame him for not passing but his position is shooting gaurd and his open teammates dont score.

He played fine w/ Yao. It seams as though Yao can do no wrong and his failling are blamed on everyone else(Coaches, teammates, China, lack of experience, exct.) Cat was the one most vissible supporter of Yao. I guess when Yao gets the ball on the block and fumbles it away becuase he not strong enough or to tiered, its Cats fault.

I love Yao, but he has to get better and MORE consitant before we call him our saving grace. Our backcourt is not the problem. They can and need to get better, but they are not to blame for us lossing.

We also need a punch in the second unit. Mobley coming off the bench is a good idea.
