I can't believe people are saying OP should've sat down. It's a Rockets game with less than 2 mins left where every play matters. As a fan, he has every right to stand, in fact I'm sure the organization strongly encourages it. Cursing is maybe a tad extreme, but it is also a little overblown by parents. They are words, words that are "bad" because we labeled them as such. The dad wanting to physically harm someone because they said a curse word around their kids is way off base. He should've asked politely, but it seems like he was too interested in proving his alpha male status.

This is why I typically don't even go to games anymore. I stand, yell, and yes occasionally cuss. I don't do it to disrespect anyone, or anything of the sorts, I am just enjoying the game. I can't do it sitting down and giving a simple golf clap. That just aint me. Knowing this, I choose to stay at home instead of go and "annoy" all the other people. But to say that the OP was a jerk for not complying to what macho dad wanted, is really wrong in my humble opinion.

That's lame. I can't even keep myself from standing and pacing watching from home. If I'm at the game with thousands of people screaming in the final minutes then I'm definitely standing.

Not going to comment on the way OP handled the situation, but what really surprises me is the number of fans on this thread who believe as a general premise that sitting takes precedence over standing during important parts of a game.

I personally just don't get it. If it's the last two minutes and the game is close, in my opinion you may stand and scream all you want. Don't be a dick about it. Be polite if someone voices objection. Sit down if you believe they have a good reason (I.e. Maybe they physically can't stand up).

Again, not sayin OP handled situation ideally, but to say someone should sit down to accommodate those who don't want to stand is ludicrous to me.

The people sitting behind OP are the same as the soccer moms in the front row looking at their iphones that get wrecked by flying players because they aren't paying attention to the game.

I love that when it happens. Scola used to do it all the time.

I can't imagine someone asking the person in front of them to sit down at a Texans game. I doubt that ever happens, yet at Rockets games we hear about this almost every week it seems like. My stance is that if people standing is going to potentially bother you, then you should not go to the game.

Nice job OP. I'm with you and most fans with a pair are. Unfortunate so many people go to games who've never played sports or have much enthusiasm for the game experience. Fat texas.

So for everyone saying that it's okay to stand at the end of the game, tell me: How do kids see the game? Or folks with a handicap? Are they just f'ed?

Serious question... I would have a super tough time not standing at the end of a great game.

Not a cool story at all.....

Pretty sad event, especially with the knocking off his cap and glasses.

The man is a dumb ass for getting into a near fight with his kids and family there. And you are no better for provokating him further. Just a couple of rooster wannabes..... As men dont want to back down to show who is more into the gangster thug-life.

Pathetic on both of you. even more on OP for being proud of his part in the situation.

Happened at the Colts game I went to this year. 2nd row 40 yard line two guys were standing up often and there were a lot of grumpy middle aged losers giving them **** for it all game. One lady threatened to call "the President of the Texans" but settled on complaining to NRG staff. After a lot of back and forth and a lot of discussion with a stadium employee, it was settled when they could and couldn't stand. It still wasn't good enough for the grumpy folks who just threw a fit throughout the entire game.

Early on in the argument they turned and asked me (in row 4) if I and my wife would support them in making a complaint, but I said No - I had no problem with them standing. It's a football game, for f***'s sake (I left out the last part).

I paid good money earlier this season to watch the thunder game with a buddy. We had great seats but this couple in from of us were belligerent as hell.

They had about 6 beers between them and were literally standing up every possession. Sure everyone stands up for big possessions but there were several instances where I missed important plays because the gf shot her ass up and blocked my view.

The frustrating part was I wasn't gonna stand because there was a family behind me and I didn't want to block their view.

My buddy and I eventually moved some rows down. But don't be that drunk jackass that ruins others experiences because of you inability to perceive your surroundings.

Hell in close games I usually just end up standing on the stairs and screaming my ass off, that way I can do my little ritual and not worry about obstructing someone's view.

    Just my 2 cents

Probably should have just ignored him, turned around and stayed up. Best reaction in this case is no reaction. And most times it makes the guy go even more crazy. I've found that not acknowledging people makes them hysterical and makes me laugh.

Guy probably should have put kid on shoulders if he was worried about his kids view, or just politely asked and explained - doubt he was though.

Fans are there to watch and cheer. Not sure why someone should do something else. Stay at home and watch it on tv if your going to be a jackass.

I would have just sat down. Figure it is an unwritten rule, you don't have to stand up at the game. If you were standing up for certain situations, then you are in the right. If you were standing the entire time, show some common courtesy.

There is nothing wrong with standing, but if someone asks you to sit down so they can see, sit down. Your retort saying he should stand up is b.s, I would have reacted the same way and put you in your place. Not physically because there is no point risking being kicked out over a douche who won't sit down when asked.

Add to the fact he has kids, and you standing would have made it harder for them to see. Just rude and no etiquette.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I like to stand up during games as well, but also remember I'm not the only person in the building. It isn't about what your rights are, it is about manners.

I don't see how you sitting down will stop you from enjoying the game. Now if you watch it at home, you can stand, curse and jerk off during half time if you want.

I'm summary, that story shows me you are a selfish Rockets fans only thinking about your own good time.

No, it is about considering others. Some people like to sit down and watch the game, if someone asks you to sit down, then sit down.

It is ludicrous to be selfless and consider others? Sitting down won't bothers others around you, standing up will causes those behind you to not be able to see.

2 attitude here. One says, I don't care about anyone else, I want to stand and refuse to sit. The other attitude is wanting others around you to enjoy the game as well.

Don't people understand this concept when they buy a ticket? Other people will be sitting with you, not everyone enjoys the game the same way you do.

There are no rules, ways you have to act. If you want to be selfish and a jackass, be a jackass. Understand you may run into the person who will put his hands on you.
