The title of this thread makes no sense in relation to what he said.

It is obvious that he's urging people not to blame what's happening on Islam but rather religious extremism, citing historical examples of religious extremism from different faiths. It is a perfectly reasonable thing for the President of the United States to do, and his predecessor did the same.

I understand why a politician would say that.

But it's wrong.

Islam is the problem, and has been the problem from its inception. I would even agree that it is a reasonable thing for a President of the United States to say (similar to how Merkel says similar things).

But if you have cancer, it doesn't help you that someone tells you you just have a cold, like others did before.

 

That argument can be made about all religions. Which is why the President said what he said... To keep people from trying to convince the world that everyone of the Islam faith is evil. The same approach Hitler took with the Jews. Aren't you German (or live in Germany)...?

Anyway, it's not like the President isn't doing anything about what's going on. He has been killing off radical group leaders but I haven't seen you guys start any threads on that... Especially bigtexxx.

 

You have to start somewhere... Simply killing off a bunch of foot soldiers won't accomplish much. And trying to convince the world all Muslims are evil could just make things worst. ISIS leadership bench and command structure are deep but eventually they will weaken if he keeps knocking them off. You can't expect overnight success in a war. You should know that considering how long this country has been at war.

 

Obama just stated the facts. I have no idea why people have problems with the truth.

 

Not really centuries ago , invasion of Iraq was justified by a former president George B. who claimed that he heard voice of God in his head. And all the sudden terrorist groups grew like mushroom in Iraq .

If you honestly believe the president is stating that what ISIS is doing is "okay" then you are either being deliberately disingenuous or you are a half-wit moron.

I assume the political point was supposed to be: it's going to take ethical Islam to deal with insane Islam, the one thing we as American's have learned in the last 20 years is the US cannot apply solutions in the Muslim world, not with 100,000 soldiers and a trillion dollars. If we go ranting against Islam like the religion is our enemy, we have no influence in the theater at all.

But I really didn't want in on this tarbaby thread, the right will contort anything for effect, and, Obama just doesn't give a f*** about that.

 

I think the comparison is right on the money. Today's Muslim extremists are identical to Christians during the crusades in many, many ways.
