NY, look at their situation, they have Melo, they have oodles of cap space, so if they can get Dragic with Melo, the following year when the cap explodes, they can offer another max and since they already have a 1b and a #3, it'd be a plug and play situation for whomever. Realistically you can't sell a free agent on "we'll bring in a star", since the whole reason they're looking at leaving their current situation is because their team struggled for years to do just that. That's why Dwight never gave any consideration to Dallas' "we'll bring someone in" as compared to Houston's "Harden is signed for 5 years"
I like Dudley, but we really don't need him. We DO need another PG, and we need to position ourselves for another superstar to go with James, IE Jimmy Butler...

Buyout is not the same as the stretch provision. Detroit used the latter on Smith even though he was under contract for two more years. Similarly, many believe BKN could go that route with DWill if they choose to rebuild and need the cap space. ($21,042,800 + $22,331,135) / ((2 remaining years x 2) + 1 extra year) = ~$8.7mill per year for the next five years (!!!) Not very plausible, but it is still possible
Utah had something going with Deron Williams, but throwing Jerry Sloan under the bus blew everything up. Now Deron is a far cry from a top tier point guard. At one point the conversation centered around Deron Williams Vs. Chris Paul for best point guard in the NBA.
I guess you missed Dudley being added to bbholic's signature. That's the only thing that could explain your ambivalence towards a possible acquisition of him.
