People like that family should be ejected from the arena.

Too many yuppies with lower seats.

Sounds like you were the douche. Respect the man's family at least.

Should have hit the wife and kids as well and then said "If you scared of wolves, don't go into the woods".... That should teach them....

Shouldn't have cursed in front of the kids, you were basically challenging him at that point. With that being said, I stand up 70% of the game and I'm usually in the nose bleeds. I can't stand uninterested fans!

Compassion is the secret ingredient missing on this planet too often.

Compassion opens your options instead of closing them into a you vs me loop.

Compassion as a perspective in Life, ( the way you view your self and others), would add this list of options for having Life work:

Turn and observe the situation and ask: What am i seeing ? how can I make it better for all?
(this takes about 5 seconds if anyone is honest about this.)

Move to an empty seat. The game had more holes in the seats then swiss cheese.

Do not make a face that says you don't care. If you (us) don't care who will ?

Respect that the kids are as excited as you but maybe Dad doesn't like public displays or is too repressed. So do the right thing and let the kids see the last 2 minutes of a very bid deal in their lives, a Rockets game !

You have no way of knowing what happened to this family before arriving. There may have been tensions brewing that found a convenient escape value, you. Not saying it's right, but with compassion you can see someones elses' pain.

Just say sorry, sit in your seat and scream your head off !

What if one of the family couldn't really stand up with pain or had an injury ? You do not know this, but by using compassion as your guide you might just pull back from being offended that you felt suppressed and rose to a much more inclusive place. Where everyone has fun and no one has to suffer in any form. Yes become Gandhi at a Rockets game !

Trust me it works and is the authentic place to live from.

I imagine all this took away from really enjoying the rest of the game, so it sounds like 5 people had their experience totally ruined because of the you vs me.

They say that there are 2 choices in Life: Too be Right, or to be Alive.

Forget all of this if you are in Dallas at a Rockets game. All bets are off. : )

    Both sides certainly have concerns.

The 'family guy' paid good $$ to take his family to the game. But then, you gotta teach your kids that REAL fans are gonna be real fans and stand up when things get exciting. ESPECIALLY during the crunch time of a close game. Help the kids get into it too!

And then again, good point: "ALRIGHT HOUSTON......ON YOUR FEET!!!"
Someone is going to start railing on you for cheering on your team when the arena announcer is calling for it?
That would be sort of like "C'MON MAKE SOME NOISE!" and then the guy next to you is angry because you are clapping or yelling.

But it NEVER should have come to profanity and pushing/shoving. Especially in front of wife/kids.
Sounds like 'family guy' needs to have his family watch on television if they can't handle the live fan experience.

But then, 'standing fan' could have handled it better as well.
I like the 'DANCE OFF' idea. LOL

Taking a child to the game does not give you the right to order other fans around.

That being said, I have been to games with obnoxious, belligerent fans cussing at the refs in graphic language, and those fans deserve to have a father tell them to behave themselves. Just standing and cheering, however, does not deserve that treatment.

There seems to be more to this story, though. The fact that the OP put his hands on the guy seems to imply drunkenness, and I would bet there was a lot going on before the final 2 minutes.

When everyone is seated. Regardless of you size you have a good chance of seeing the action. When everyone stands I know my kids standing up can't see. That sucks. The. I pick one up which means the people behind me can't see.

You'd probably be blocking that family's view even though they were standing you 6'4 goofy b*stard. Then curse in front of kids? Real adult. Now if the people in front of you were standing I get it but no you were the AHole blocking the peoples view. They paid money to watch the game not to see your back. You're actually the ****ty fan here.

Thanks for the "Stfu" rep, but I don't think I will. Same can be said for the mimes sitting on their asses at a sporting event - they should understand people choose to stand and be loud and get into the game, and when you ask them to sit down, you're just as much ruining their experience. As long as you're not being overly obnoxious or profane, you should NOT be asked to sit down. There is a very large video screen with an even better view of the action. Sounds like your head is quite far up your ass.
