Crap - I just got back from the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. But, my fiancee is still there, and will be until the 21st for a horseshow in Parker. I can get her to fax you a copy of her hotel statement if you overnight her a cap. I know she is planning on going to Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park on Monday or Tuesday and would gladly take pictures of it there. Let me know. Thanks.
tim, here's my take (for you to completely ignore ). just FYI, i'm malaysian, 21 male engineering student. i dont like it at all. its too simple, and it doesn't convey anything about basketball, NBA, or houston. and about the hidden h thing, its not smart or witty. its just some stroke of lines. you mention nike being just a swoosh and recognized all over the world, thats because its the biggest sports apparel company in the world, and just because its recognized doesn't mean people like the nike logo. besides it doesn't have to stand for anything. is the houston rocket hoping that one day the whole world would know them by just the logo? its not gonna happen. and people are not gonna care. imagine this, guy walks around wearing a tshirt with the R logo and hot girls asks him about it. he says 'oh its the houston rockets'. girl raises eyebrows wondering 'whats that?'. actually just having to explain the logo sucks. the houston rockets team is NOT WELL KNOWN enough to have just an R to be its logo. you talk sports with your buddies and terms like MU maybe most of them will understand but with the rockets, you're gonna have to say 'the NBA basketball team the houston rockets'. ask non-NBA fans to name as many teams as they can, it'll be knicks, lakers. oh and for everyone else, forget about our present dildo-with-teeth logo. anything is better than that. and then judge the new logo. i hope the uniform will be much better. as for me, i wouldn't be buying any R merchandise. Tim, its cool though that you talk with us fans.
fba34- Calm down son.. I think your over-analyzing this a bit too much. Wait until the entire uniform/logo presentation is done, because you might change your mind. Tim said that this is only the flat version of the logo. Anyways, I think they know what they are doing. I can already foresee people like you jumping on the bandwagon when the uni's come out. Besides sometimes the best thing to do is not always the popular thing to do. To achieve greatness you have to attempt it. Peace.
Okay I'm a guy with photoshop and a little time so take it easy on me...here are a couple I messed with. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
calm down? no i must not calm down. i must make a big huge deal out of it. i'm just giving my opinion, since there's a guy from the rockets team that actually reads this and is interested in what the fans think . salute tim flat or not, its not gonna run far from what we see now right? please let me be wrong. jumping on the bandwagon would be me suddenly saying to everyone 'ha see, i knew it was gonna be hot. you guys suck'. and quickly deleteing my previous post if i do change my mind, i would praise the rockets designers and admit to my wrongs. and admit to everyone i know nothing of fashion. and then take a long hard look at wether my t-shirt and khakis combo really is as hot as i first thought it was. and i dont not like the logos simply to be popular. i am always popular. tshirt and khakis popular. i'm siding with jeff, few years after this, we're gonna go 'what were we thinking?'
Am I the only one who doesn't care about the Rockets logo? Is this the most posted thread of all time? Apology to anyone who posted similar thoughts as I didn't read the thread. Hey maybe we can have a forum devoted to such issues.
All opinions are valid. But here's some added stuff to throw into your analysis: 1. People do like the Nike logo. People really like it. If you talk to Nike, they give it part of the credit for their becoming the top sports apparel company in the world. There's research on this, but you shouldn't need it -- common sense says you don't become the best selling apparel company if people don't like the symbols on the apparel, especially when the symbol is so prominent on most of the apparel. 2. We believe the Rockets were the most watched sports team on the planet last year. International ratings data is kind of sketchy, so it's hard to say this with absolutely certainty -- but even if we weren't number one, we were in the top few teams globally. We're much more well known than you give us credit for. Some of the big games that were televised nationally in China (Rockets - Lakers, for example) were among the most watched sporting events of the year globally. Not quite Superbowl or Olympics numbers, but up there. The best known sports logo in the world is ... the Dallas Cowboys star. It's very possible to have the world know your team by it's logo. But that logo has to be simple so it can translate across cultures -- if it's word-based, it generally won't cross-over. Letter based can work; the Yankees, Cubs, and Green Bay are good examples there. Tim
Tim, Do you have a breakdown of NBA team apparel sales? Where exactly do the Rockets rank? Where did Yao's jersey end up ranking? If I remember correctly, Iverson was #1 but I may be off base there. Btw, I don't know if you ever get to the Hangout section but I'd love to see your comments on this: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&postid=953014#post953014 Check out the Heat poster...I really think that would go over well here.
From my experiences from traveling across Asia, Europe, and Australia...I would have to say that the best known American sports logo worldwide is the chicago bulls logo. This logo dominated all others by far along with Michael Jordan. Their local markets are flooded with bulls gear. I actually only saw the dalls cowboy logo only in some elite/high-class places.
Guess what the hell i just saw yesterday....i was watching re-runs of a show on MTV called " who got game?" and as i was watching, i noticed a shirt that one of the players was wearing.....considering dat this show has already been taped a while back....guess what one of the players was wearing while playing basketball.....a sleeveless shirt, it was gray, and guess what kind of logo he had on it...THE ROCKET'S new logo...now..how in the world did he get dat before we ever saw them, and how did they let them northerners in on the secret before us???
I noticed something else in the new logo. I think it's probably not REALLY there, I just read it into the logo, but it's somewhat cool. Check this out: <img src="http://www.strakejesuit.org/fac/bazin/logofind.jpg">
Very clever Vengeance, I never expected anyone to look at it that[/I hard, lol. But it's my understanding the designer wanted the suggestion of movement, so really creative there. Might make a nice poster.
You can also see how the logo appeals to Steve and Ming. Their numbers are within the logo. Nice job Rocs
The problem with the new logo is that its not a logo at all. It may be a symbol of some sort but nothing in it tells me that it represents a sports franchise, basketball team specifically, or Houston in any way. It´s not God awful but it is very disappointing. If this is the final logo and not just the alternate or shorts logo, than I think we as fans are due an apology. Grinning rocket, pinstripes, and now this? Come on management, you can do better.
We're not due an apology..we're not due anything. If you don't like it, don't buy it. That's so silly it's laughable. Keep waiting on your apology. I saw a guy wearing the new logo (the red hat with white logo) at West Oaks Mall on Saturday night while I was enjoying James Coney Island hot dogs in the Food Court! I asked him where he got the hat and he told me works for the Rockets.
