Needs: Houston: Dumping the inflated contracts without giving up a core player. Memphis: Get riddence with the injured Mike Dickerson; add a quality veteran with defense. N.Y.: Size, size, size. Houston trades: Kelvin Cato , Maurice Taylor, Bostjan Nachbar, Moochie Norris Houston receives: Othella Harrington, Wesley Person, Charlie Ward, Travis Knight Rockets upgrade their back court and get additional 15 million+ capspace to have a spash next year. We will have to sign a backup Center-say Elden Campbell and we will be alright for this year. With Utah out of the picture we shall make the playoff this year and be a real contender in the years to come. New York trades: Othella Harrington, Travis Knight, Charlie Ward, Latrell Sprewell New York receives: Kelvin Cato, Maurice Taylor, Bostjan Nachbar, Michael Dickerson, Moochie Norris N.Y. Gets much needed size and a young SF with potential in Nachbar, at the expense of aging Sprewell. Will have to eat up some inflated contracts. Memphis trades: Michael Dickerson, Wesley Person Memphis receives: Latrell Sprewell Memphis gets a quality veteran without giving up something substantial.
New York just drafted three big men in the draft. They have plenty of big men; they just need skilled big men now. Cato and Taylor? They aren't better than what they have already. Let's not mention that it makes no sense for either Memphis or Houston.
Guys do you think with a minor tweak in the current roster we can compete with the likes of Lakers, Spurs, Kings and Mavs? Can we match their talent? My trade proposal is not a block bluster but gives us a reasonable oppurtunity to add some quality talent next year. Think about it. We will have Yao, Franchise, Mobley, Griffin, Othella and possibly Posey under contract and still 15-18 million of Cap space to lure some quality free agents.
No trade can make us compete with those teams next year. Let's see how things are in 2 or 3 years when Yao starts hitting his stride. As for next year, I just hope we show improvement and make the playoffs. The future is NOT now, the future is in 2 or 3 years.
Othella Harrington, Wesley Person, Charlie Ward, Travis Knight -Thats gotta be the crappyiest bench ive ever seen.
