Random Houston Rockets Trade Ideas - 2014-15

In the end, I think the asking price for both Goran Dragic and Ty Lawson will bee too high for Daryl Morey. I do think that somebody bites on Dragic, though, and I think it will be the horribly managed Sacramento Kings. Giving Dragic five year, $100 mil contract is a mistakebut horribly managed and desperate teams like Sacramento make those kinds of mistakes. Here is my projected Dragic trade:

Goran Dragic and Zoran Dragic to Sacramento;

Ben McLemore and Derrick Williams (expiring contract, will not be re-signed) to Phoenix

Great haul for Phoenix, McLemore is a very nice young player, on Year Two of his rookie contract.

This trade means that the undervalued Darren Collison is suddenly available for 30 cents on the dollar, and this is Daryl Morey's very favorite kind of trade. Here is my projected Collison trade:

Isaiah Canaan (OR Nick Johnson), the Knicks' 2015 second round pick (#31-#34 overall), and Kostas Papanikolaou (team option for 2015-16 which will surely be declined, so this is an expiring contract) to Sacramento;

Darren Collison and Reggie Evans (excellent rebounder and defender) to Houston

I also think Morey trades for a forward who can shoot the ball. And, because Miami is suddenly looking like a dark horse in the East thanks to the unexpected emergence of Hassan Whiteside, I no longer think this veteran forward who can shoot will be Luol Deng. I now think this player will be Jared Dudley, who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer after he opts out of his contract, and Milwaukee already has its hands full with the impending restricted free agencies of Brandon Knight and Khris Middleton. Here is my projected Dudley trade:

Clint Capela (OR Nick Johnson, OR Isaiah Canaan) and Alexey Shved (expiring contract) to Milwaukee;

Jared Dudley to Houston

These are my official predictions, 15 days before the Feb 19 trade deadline. Subject to change!

 

If Sacramento were to lose Ben McLemore, I think it would make more sense to send Derrick Williams' expiring to Minnesota for Kevin Martin instead of tying Zoran to the trade...

I didn't label you a Bucks fan. I ASKED if you were. In that are you someone that follows the team on a daily basis and in turn has a general feel for the direction where they are headed in terms of personnel. Because your opinion was opposite of what Bucks fans were feeling via the RealGM board as Rox>Mavs illustrated.

The Bucks will make the playoffs the way they are playing in the East. I agree.

And their best player is Giannis Antetokounmpo. And they believe their core is Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker and Khris Middleton. They obviously like Brandon Knight. But they will have some financial decisions to make this offseason with him becoming an RFA (Middleton will also be an RFA). So, the decisions are not so cut and dry for them as they positions themselves for now and in the future, especially being a small market team.

I have made this point a couple of times now and it does not seem to register with you. So be it.

 

LOL their core doesn't not involve Middleton. He's a damn role player, what is so hard to understand? You keep mentioning that they're a small market team. Their owners net worth are a combined 4 billion which **** all over Leslie Alexander.

They are in the playoffs race. Who the **** is gonna play point if they trade Knight? Bayless?

The goal should be to get Valanciunas, DMo, and Harden on the same team. Then give time, time and championship will follow. With the addition of point guard

 

Valanciunas' growth is flattening out. Don't see him becoming great.

Your opinion could have been articulated so much better and with some decency and if you had you might have made some good points. Instead you come across as biased and without much credibility.

I don't know much about the Bucks and their players and I've got no dog in this hunt. I know you don't care what I think, just saying few people actually listen and give credence when you post and say things like this. At the very least you aren't convincing anyone with this approach.

That said, the thread from RealGM I posted started sometime ago so it's not a knee jerk response to some game (and no I don't think half of CF ever wanted to trade Harden even after a bad game).

Obviously opinions differ there as they do on any fan site, but it's not as black and white as you put it. There are a good number who do place Middleton in the core with Giannis and Parker. I'm sure many want very much to keep him knight. But there seems to certainly be a portion of their fan base that would like to move him as opposed to eating up cap space that can be used on their core and adding other pieces. Some just don't have enough confidence in his game to give him the salary he might get in RFA. Not saying I think that's what the FO thinks, just saying not all Bucks fans see things they way you're trying (in poor taste) convey.

If the Rockets are going to insist on being a three point shooting team, they are going to have to improve their shooting. This trade adds two 40+% 3 point shooters who are also both great scorers, while solving the elusive second ball handler problem. We give up no key contributors and the only real downside is that it hinders our flexibility going forward, however, both are on pretty reasonable deals.

Interesting, but playing Thomas and Martin heavy minutes would really damage our defense, though. We might also be creating a problem with not having enough minutes to go around for everybody.

 

The beauty of this trade is that you now have a nice mix of offensive and defensive specialists at point, on the wings, with your bigs, etc., which offers a ton of lineup combinations to match up with opposing lineups. Thomas and Martin would be taking Terry and Papa's minutes, so how much worse is it gonna be? Coming off the bench you won't find very many serious offensive threats imo, so I think it is a non issue.

I wouldn't agree with the minutes though, I think if we want to ready and able for the playoffs year end and year out, we have got to pace our guys minutes. In my ideal world, you can get everyone down to 32-35 minutes. Our team would be full of vets, and I don't see any of those guys complaining about minutes, with the possible exception of Thomas, but I think we can make it work.

I really like that trade lavrs8. Brewer and Martin have chemistry from Minnesota. The line up combos will be great. If we want shooting we can go Dmo, Smith/ariza, Harden, Martin, Thomas. That will spread out the driving lanes for harden kmart or Thomas, to go to work.

In this scenario we can also keep our newfound defensive line up as well. Plumlee, smoove ariza, brewer, Beverley. A training camp under our belt with this team can be special. Nick Johnson continuing to progress should help us in the event that we lose pat

One team to keep an eye out for is the Brooklyn Nets...there is a real possibility that Brook Lopez or Deron Williams could be shipped b4 the trade deadline. One such hypothetical scenario:

Houston in: Goran Dragic
Houston out: Kostas Papanikolau, Terrence Jones

Suns in: Brook Lopez
Suns out: Goran Dragic, and 2016 #1 round pick

Nets in: Terrence Jones, Papa, 2016 Suns 1st round pick
Nets out: Brook Lopez

Assuming none of Lawson, Dragic, Knight are available, would anyone be willing to trade the Pels pick for Isiah Thomas (adding Terry or Kpap as salary filler)?

He would help a lot as the lead bench scorer/playmaker. Not sure if he is the answer to our prayers or whether he is worth the Pels pick, but he would definitely make a difference. His salary is cap-friendly, so he would be easy to move without hurting flexibility.
