Clippers select Mike Dunleavy as new head coach

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) -

The Los Angeles Clippers have selected Mike Dunleavy to be their new head coach, according to a published report.

The Clippers are expected to introduce Dunleavy at a 4:00 p.m. (et) press conference on Friday, according to ESPN.com.

The 49-year-old Dunleavy replaces interim coach Dennis Johnson, who took over when Alvin Gentry was fired on March 3. A former NBA player, Dunleavy has had previous head coaching experience with the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and the Portland Trail Blazers.

In 1991, Dunleavy guided the Lakers to an NBA Finals appearance in his first season as their head coach. The Bulls defeated the Lakers in five games.

In his 10 years as a head coach, Dunleavy has compiled an overall record of 398-390.

Dunleavy was also a candidate for the Houston and Washington coaching vacancies. The Rockets hired Jeff Van Gundy, while the Wizards chose Eddie Jordan.

Poor Dunleavy, he should get himself ready to find another job/part-time job because there is a 99.9% of chance that he will be fired again by the clippers organization over the next few years...

they should put it in the "clippers coaching manual"... :D

Is it just me or is this signing a really weird one for the Clippers and Dunleavey.

I mean last year didn't Dunleavey Jr. say the only team in the draft he WOULDN'T play for was da Clippers?

Well, I guess Jr. have foreseen the signing one year earlier than most of us.
