it has been reported from a credible source which works with the spurs brodcasting team that the nets have contacted the spurs to work out a sign and trade. kidd must have told the nets of his intention to sign with the spurs, so they must be trying to get as much value back for him, instead of end up with nothing. the rumor is that they asked the spurs for parker and bowen, but the spurs declined. they countered the offer with parker and rose. i wonder how true this actually is. i didnt see it yet on the forum so i thought i would let you guys know.
It would have to be a MUCH MUCH MUCH larger sign and trade for the salaries to match. Aren't sign and trades done when a team doesn't have the cap room to actually sign a free agent? SA has the cap space. And there is no reason for them to give up any players from their championship squad.
yea thats true, but since SA is so far under the cap, the salaries dont have to match. as long as both teams stay under the cap. PLUS, this gives J.Kidd the max salary he can get, which would be the 12.5% increase every year (instead of 10% that he would get with an outright contract with SA).
Whats the chances of that? The spurs will just sign him out right. The nets have no cards in their hand.
why would the spurs give up parker, rose or bowen when kidd can be signed out right. The nets basically will have to take some crappy bench player or a couple of draft picks because the nets have no say in what they get back really
But Kidd does. If Kidd wants 12.5 increases per year SA must accomidate him with a S&T and reach a deal the Nets will accept, without a S&T they can only offer 10% increase--we are talking about 5 or 6 mil difference to Kidd. Also, With J Oneal out of the equation the Spurs have more urgency to get Kidd--they were the 2 big time URFA out there--things get really muddied (plan c, plan d) in Spurland if Kidd stays with NJ. What doesn't make sense if the Spurs would allow Parker and Rose but not Parker and Bowen. Rose is more important than Bowen is--both immediately and long term. Further, I wouldn't think the Nets would care either about Bowen/Rose you are talking about a back-up either way and the Nets have good back-ups at their positions. In sum if this is going down Rose/Bowen is inconsequental. Nets might as well as go for Parker and whatever picks/prospects SA can offer--that is better for both teams. You know, more and more I think the Spurs might be better served splitting their cap room to Arenas and Miller/Kandi/Rasha. Get younger talent. I am glad the Spurs havn't targted Arenas b/c I think he would be excellent for them--he is similarly young as Parker and better and more consistent than either Parker or Manu despite fewer years of pro development--I'd hate to have him hanging around the perimeter with TD sucking the defense.
doesn't make sense at all. You'd think they'd gladly give up Bowen because Manu is destined to take his job anyways.
actually they have manu at the 2 and bowen at the 3. they would want to keep bowen because of his perimeter defense. he plays kobe like any other in the league. and plus malik makes a lot more. this would give them about another 6-8 mil in cap space. they can jus sign pj brown. he was said to have a good trip to SA. he would do maliks role but has like 4 inches on him.
Good point about salary--but the Spurs would still need another quality 4/5 with TD and PJ if they lost Rose. However the Spurs can go with Manu and SJ at the wings--so I think Bowen is just as expendable as Rose. More importantly though--the Nets at best have a really limited role for the over 30 Bowen with the young RJ in his spot, or Rose as well given their 4/5 depth. Thus if a S&T is in the works both teams are better off it is Parker and picks/prospects, not throwing in a player who has a important role in the Spurs system but who will be buried on the bench for the Nets.
Well, if true- It would make sense to move Rose over Bowen *IF* the Spurs have a big man close to signing on the dotted line- such as Brad Miller, Zo, or Kandi. They still need bodies off the bench some day, but even with Rose, they need a starter at C (or PF if TD will play there). Kidd-Jackson with Manu/Speedy is a very good backcourt, and a Bowen-Duncan-aftorementioned center would be a good frontcourt, just needing depth. The West is going to be the league of the big boys for a long time now, it looks like.
No offense to Kidd, but screw him if I'm San Antonio. Aren't Kobe and KG free agents next year.......? Save your money Spurs for something better.
Why would San Antonio even give a pubic hair off of Parker's nuts for Kidd? There is no reason to even lose that much if you are the Spurs.
i just have a feeling San Antonio will regret giving up Parker (if they do). I feel he's going to explode in the near future. Maybe if he's in NJ, Richard Jefferson's game will come down to earth and RJ will be exposed as a puss. Parker becomes a superstar and RJ exposed as a puss? Works for me
If they trade rose/parker or bowen/parker for kidd on S&T wouldn't that leave SA some extra money? Maybe they will use that to sign Mourning?
