to the OP, firstly glad you weren't hurt and didn't hurt someone else. As for the accident, it was an accident. Technically you weren't "hit" so there was no obligation for the truck to stop. Morally however, it was a dick move for the driver to speed off imho. You're gonna have to file it with your insurance to have any damages covered (dont forget about your deductible and using up your one silver bullet). You may be better off just paying out of pocket and being thankful it didnt cost more. still sucks to pay for someone elses' carelessness though.
Even if you'd been hit, the driver's insurance could've claimed they weren't at fault. Recently, somebody hit me on 290. The cut me off. Didn't even see me. I braked hard and almost avoided the colision, but I barely tapped them. There was about $1000 in damage to my car. They fled they scene. I filed a police report. The detective found them and got their statement and determined they were at fault. Their insurance, on the other hand, determined that their insured wasn't at fault, so they didn't pay out. I had to use my own insurance. Moral of the story. Even when you're in the right, you're wrong under the current system.
Yeah, in hindsight I wish I would have just let him hit me. Knowing the kind of character he is now I think it would have been the better option to get him involved in the accident
The police report was documented as a hit and run because his actions caused a vehicle accident and then fled the scene. I guess I can draw a diagram but if you can imagine a scenario in which if I stayed in my own lane I would have been T boned or done the T boning due to his running the red light and I did everything in my power to avoid the collison
The city might not have one but the stores around that intersection might. Hopefully there is one camera pointing directly at the door where the street can be seen.
Was going to ask if anyone had recommendations for any dual cams to capture front and rear windows. Thanks. If you have any other dual cam recommendations, please post!
I was looking at getting that one. Is it easily detachable? Not really comfortable leaving it in my car. Tried reading product description and couldn't find an answer.
It is. Looking at the picture, the rear-view mirror clamp is the piece on the top right and it is upside down. The top part that looks like a 'T' points down and the top of the camera has an indention where you slide it into the 'T' and it holds pretty snug. The last picture shows the top of the camera where you slide that 'T' in. I keep my camera mounted at all times. It's attached to the rear view mirror and doesn't look like a GPS. I know some people do get paranoid and take it down, but if you take it down, you'll also have to disconnect the power source.
you gotta find the guy and ask him straight up to tell you if he was messing with your car for keeps or was it just a hit and run
