Im getting tired of people talking about olajuwon like he is the anti christ (or scottie pippen).I love the rockets but I grew up watching hakeem play and watching him put the rockets on his back and carry them to their first championship. He is and always will be my favorite basketball player.Hakeem olajuwon deserves what ever he wants . He has done alot for the rockets and for the city of Houston and should get a little more respect. So Dream loyalists we must unite and defend Hakeem olajuwon,he may not have been the reason why we became fans of the rockets but he is the reason why we are still here, its hard for me to believe that this site would be so huge if we never won a championship.We must defend Olajuwon, because although we believe in the logo on the front page "don't fight the future" we, unlike others, have not forgotten about the past. ------------------

I just ask for some quiet dignity in all this. The man's unhappy and knows he can still contribute. But he needs a half-court team. If he's waived, I hope he goes to Miami. Then that team will have a good chance of advancing in the East, Hakeem might even advance deep into the playoffs. If we trade him, let it be Vancouver, and he can sign on with a real team next year. As he said, whatever's best for the team, which means, of course, whatever's best for me. And that's fine. He doesn't speak hip-hop. You can't cram it down his throat. Hakeem loyalists: Let him go. What could be more loyal than letting the Dream be happy? Detractors: When he DOES go, don't post garbage. Show some respect for the man. Remember that he's just about the only player (other than Coop) to incite sports euphoria in this town. ------------------
Loyalty and respect go hand in hand. Hakeem lost some respect when his latest "team" stunt. I believe the team's and Rocket fan's loyalty dropped with his respect. Happy or not...there is no excuse for his actions. Keep him on the IR until a good trade comes through ... and if one doesn't ... let him ride it until he has a change of heart or season end. Sad way to end his career here, but who's fault is that? ------------------

That is just like saying that we don't want you on this team. If Hakeem is not wanted on the team why should he want to play here. He isn't being disloyal for not wanting to play for the Rockets. What would you do if you were Hakeem? Would you keep your mouth shut and just let the team walk all over you? He wants what is best for HIM and then the Rockets, because if he is not playing for the Rockets why should he give a damn. He knows Houston is not the place for him anymore and we all know that too. I am a Hakeem loyalist and that is why I want him gone as soon as possible so he can be happy. ------------------

If you were then you would know that the Rockets almost traded him to Tor... I don't know about you but I'd rather play in Houston than go to Tor where he has to give 10 of his 17 mill to pay taxes in Canada... Also, he should be glad that he wasn't traded to the Clippers in the summer of 1992, for Danny Manning and Charles Smith... Kidrock, Hakeem could have gotten that much mney from any team in teh NBA. When he signed his extension he was still an MVP player. 26pts 12 rebs 3 blks 2 stls that is definately worth at least 55 mill for 5 seasons. I guess that means Kevin garnett is being paid more than double what he should be, actually everyone in the damn NBA is way overpaid if you can say Hakeem got sucha great contract extension for those numbers. No player is playing as well now as hakeem did when he signed that extension. ------------------
I will start out by saying that I am a Rockets fan #1, and a Dream fan #2. But...Dream is part of the reason that I became a Rockets fan about 10 years ago, and that is why it will be hard to see him go. But, his role has diminished and he is not the big guy on our team anymore so I want whatever will make him happy, and right now it is playing somewhere else. At first I thought he should retire...but then I got to thinking, why should he? He is doing what he loves and making millions in it, so why quit when you can still play? Not many people can say that they love their job, and even less people can say they make millions of dollars in it. FYI, Olajuwon signed that contract during the Barkley era, so no, he didn't average 26 pts and 12 boards... The reason why he got as much money as he did was because Les rewarded him for the 2 titles... A nice gesture on his part... He probably figured the Rockets were shopping him a little bit, so he let them no it would be OK to trade him if they wanted. Well he made a trade demand in 92 right? Once again, this situation is oddly familiar to the one in 92... Except the motives are different... In 92, Olajuwon fakes an injury for a better contract, then demands a trade... Now, Rockets claim Olajuwon is injured, and pretty much demands a trade... I get the feeling that Olajuwon would rather be playing for another team rather than the Rockets, so I would think that it is his wish to be traded...
