    terrrible news. just terrible.

Why the hell do they have to have an asian championships every single freaking year? Robs it of meaning. And when the hell is the Chinese NT going to realize that the b est thing for Yao, and evnetually Chinese Basketball, is to spend at least part of an offseason here instead of posting up a bunch of D-II quality talent?

camp starts first week of October. The Asian games tends to be 2 weeks, like the Olympics...right? Not sure when the BBall portion of that ends, and when he could be released.

Why!? Why!? Why do they have to make the best athlete their country has to offer tired and exhausted right before the NBA season starts which is grueling enough. F*** them and their damn games, have it every 3 years or something, stop messin up Yao's NBA career.

    Are you sure?
I did not find the news anywhere else. Considering that my country will also participate in the tournament, I think it should be the news report in my country too if the schedule has been changed.

So far I did not find any news about it.

The FIBA Asia homepage is still lists the event date as 3-12 Sept.

Maybe its not true. After a few years of this, plus Olympics I would be worried that Ming gets burned out on B ball just as much as him getting physically tired.

Oh well maybe the more he plays the better, compared to Shaq sitting at home snacking on Lays and anything else he can get his hands on.

Look on the bright side, Yao will allready be in his grove to start the season. He will be the only player when the season starts that allready has 2 weeks worth a basketball under his belt. As long as he does not get hurt, it can only help him.

let's get down to it... if the Asian games begin Sep 20th and lasts two weeks (I'm assuming China goes the full length), and NBA training camp begins the first week of Oct, Yao is looking at missing about one week. I don't think this will hurt the team significantly. Doesn't training camp last for about one month? The first week of camp likely includes lots of conditioning and skill drills to get players re-acclimated to game conditions; Yao should already be there having played in Asian tournament. Hope I'm right at least. Anyone have a concrete idea of how many days he might miss??

What does his contract say about his obligation to the Rockets?
