Yeah, that is pretty stupid that they let the designer on several acid-trip movies design the logo. It does look like the Quake logo for sure. Geez, I miss the old red and yellow logo for sure. So which is worse, the mouthed dildo/ pinstripes unis or the new ones, which if the logo is any idea, they are going to be hard on the eyes. I never understood why they thought it neccessary to change the unis from red and yellow to the phallic rocket blue ones in the first place. Why not do an update on a traditional style like the Knicks did when they redid theirs a few years earlier? Or do something simple and elegant like the Nets unis?
anyone know for sure if there will be another logo or a secondary logo...or is this it? The logo itself looks a bit too wide and long to fit nicely into the small space tv stations reserve for logos.
From all the designs Eiko have done, including the new logo, I bet the new uni will also have that Vampire look... How's "Houstion Vampires" sound?
Give the new logo another chance. I'm starting to love it. As long as the pj's get a retro-night every season from now on...
I like the new logo.....I have had it on my background on my computer since 3pm when it was announced and it has really grown on me....It was not very appealing to me at first but now i think it it could be their best....especially with a white/silver/red colored jersey...I like how there is an H for houston and a R for Rockets in one symbol....Good Job Miss canadian uniform/acid trip movies designer.....You did it
The rollout began about 10 days ago with a choreographed leak of 200 caps bearing the new logo to team employees and their friends. Another 800 caps will be distributed during the next two weeks as part of the Rockets' efforts to sell luxury suites in the new downtown arena. (How can this board break trades and stalk players but not get a copy of this travesty?) "We wanted to come up with something that would be timeless," said Tim McDougall, the Rockets' vice president for marketing. "You'd like to get something like the Celtics and the Lakers have -- a timeless look that becomes our look and can stick around for a long, long time." (We had that once.) Ever since the decision to discard the Rockets' familiar red and gold uniforms after back-to-back NBA titles in 1994 and 1995 (Like Boston sending Ruth to the Yankees.) "We did some surveys, and what came back is that people defined red as the Rockets' color," McDougall said. "Some liked it with black or with white or blue or silver or platinum, and they were split on red and gold. But 99.5 percent of the answers mentioned red in some form or fashion." (Duh) Execution of that directive fell to Eiko Ishioka, who won an Academy Award in 1993 for costume design in Bram Stoker's Dracula. Ishioka initially signed on to design uniforms but came up with a logo that was adopted by Rockets owner Leslie Alexander. "What Eiko saw was the amount of upward motion that is unique to basketball and characterizes the sport," McDougall said. "When you look at the logo, you get the same feel of upward motion that the sport gives you." ( I get the feel of bile hovering in the back of my throat.) "One thing he likes about the current uniform is that when you turn on the TV, within a second you know you're watching the Rockets. He wants to make sure with the new uniforms that people don't spend time figuring out who they're watching -- that they know immediately it's the Rockets." (Again, we had this accomplished Pre-1995) "There are no pinstripes," he did offer. (Thank God for small favors.) While the Rockets prefer to retain some mystery about their new threads, Tuesday's logo rollout showed that fans are interested in the outcome. The logo was posted on the Chronicle's Web site at 2:34 p.m., and within three minutes fans were talking about it on the fan site clutchcity.net. (Props to Clutch and the boys.)
The two crecents (curve at the top of the "R" and the one crossing the "h") resemble the red borders of the ketchup & mustard logo. Intentional or not, nice little nod.
Ok i am sitting here and thinking maybe you were drunk when u quoted this...........hello the red and gold logo was ugly as hell the rocket with teeth looked like something off of power rangers the new logo is miles ahead of the old stuff if you actully sat back and looked at that you would see it too.

I agree southsidebobby .....bobbi rocks
Looking at these, none of the initials refer to the team name... they all reference the city (Including the big C on the Cubs). At least make it an "H."
TWEAK THE LOGO if you're upset with the logo, fiddle with it some.. I think that with a few minor changes it could look a lot better..
