May 31st (my 35th wedding anniversary), I have registered for the Minneapolis marathon. Finishing upright is my primary goal. Breaking 10 minutes per mile is my secondary goal. I have a half in March. Working to break 2 hours on that one. My last half in October was 2 hours 24 seconds. Currently running in Mizuno Wave Universe. Each shoe weighs 2 ounces. Phenomenal treadmill shoes. I won't be willing/able to try them outside until we fly south in February, but the reviews are good.
That is great man. Marathons always seemed so intimidating but I have always wanted to finish one. I started running more seriously again in September and got my endurance up over a couple months but a severely sprained ankle in December threw me off track. I am ready to start up again. I want to run a 5K pretty soon and work my way up.
Congrats and good luck bobrek. Cool looking shoe - I thought the 2 ounces was a typo, but in fact they do weigh 2.8 ounces. You may want to consider a heavier shoe for the marathon/long runs, but to each his own .... Do you know, does the race usually sell out? Thinking about a late spring marathon myself.
Awesome, dude. I'd like to go run Grandma's Marathon in Duluth some day. I've heard good things about that one. It's entirely along the coast of Lake Superior. Very scenic.
I ran the Marine Corps in DC and it is almost 99% flat until...... the final 20 yards where they literally make you run a 60 degree incline to the finish at the Iwa Jima memorial, lol.
I ran the Twin Cities marathon a couple of years ago, which was spectacular! Starts in Minneapolis and finishes in St. Paul. Not sure how much this course differs, but I imagine it will be pretty flat. I ran my second fastest time at that marathon, which allowed me to qualify for Boston. Good luck!
Much respect bobrek. I hope to still be walking when I'm around your age. Not saying that you are old or anything, but my knees are giving out in my late 20's after years of pounding the pavement training for marathons.
I am anxious to try them on a long outdoor run. Far and away the best treadmill shoe I have ever used. 10 miles with no problems and I felt great afterwards. I also nested in Feetures socks. No comparison to other socks I have tried. Of course they run around $14 a pair, but have a lifetime guarantee regarding holes and blisters. The race does sell out, but I'm not sure when. I'll ask around.
