Dont have anything to add other than to say that to a certain extent I agree with rimrocker. Maybe cause I to grew up with the mid 70's Rockets and loved the continuity aspect of the team. I have been looking at this new logo from time to time today, and it is growing on me. Simple, and once I read what it is *supposed* to stand for...I kinda understand what they were going for. Tim, dont be discouraged by the negative reaction around here...I think most of them have logo-envy issues. Once the team starts winning this year...people will get used to the logo. I give it a 7 at this time...it might rate higher oncce I see it on some cool looking unis.
I was at work and my buddy says, "You see the Rox new logo yet?" And then he began to chuckle. another guy says, "Nah, don't show that to Brian it will put him in a worse mood." So my bud pulls it up at chron.com and I get my first glance at the logo. I sat there for a second, it was not what was I was expecting, so simple and red. I looked at it for a second longer and really started to dig it. My first thought was it really looked like an Asian influence that Yao will love. The logo is simple and could become a classic I think. It reminds me of the old Boston Red Sox B when it was solid red waaay back when. Personally I think this is the best logo the Rox have had in my lifetime and that includes the championship years. Simple, clean, sleek, street cred I think this logo has all of that. Who cares if the guys at work didn't like it after all they're cowboy fans and that says it all. Not what I was expecting but overall it's very nice.
I am a designer... and I know that design by committee doesn't ever work. I also know that having clients that are interested in what you do and value your profession and skills are key to being successful. Having clients that are ambitious is great. Having clients that want to hire you as a draftsman suck. I know the difference, and my comments were based on the assumption that the Rockets somehow embraced the concept of the design as was quoted somewhere in this thread.
Sorry, guys. I'm just not impressed with the new logo. It just doesn't seem to suit Houston's thriving big-city image, and the image of a league as flashy as the NBA. I agree with others, however, who have said that it has an Asianesque look to it -- almost as if it were intentionally designed to appeal to Yao Ming's millions of loyal fans overseas. That's nice and all, but judging from the reaction of this forum full of rabid, die-hard Rockets fans, merchandise sales here, which are still more important, may fall flat for want of something more inspired -- and inspiring. I know some people here were less than satisfied with the last Rockets logo, but one thing I admired about it was the motion effect, which I believe that someone else here touched upon. I personally thought it was pretty cool seeing the logo on the floor of the Summit, with the smoke and fire trail behind the logo, and the Rocket out in front. It was especially cool when the Rocs made it to the playoffs, and the Rocket in the logo on the court was aiming for the NBA Playoffs Logo. I don't know how many people pay attention to court graphics, but even at a glance, I'm sure the casual observer would gather from the floor that the Rocs were a high-aiming team. At least I noticed. I don't really see the blood that everyone is talking about with the Rocs new logo. I do see the simplicity, however, and it's just not exciting. Seeing the new logo doesn't get me fired-up about the Rockets' upcoming season and future overall. Now, the Cavs, on the other hand...
Two words (or one, depending how you look at it...): RED RUM (Those of you who do get this are laughing your asses off right now. Those of you who don't, well, you're showing your age...)
someone do me a favor Take the red houston rockets font, and logo, then outline it with SILVER border then have a black background. Photoshop experts.
Take the teeth and eyes off that Rocket and that logo is a million times better than the new one. I dont see why we just didnt make minor changes to our current logo, then make our jerseys the nike dry-fit style and make them look like this... * Fill in the stars with r o c k e t s o n l i n e . n e t
Well, Fox26 just showed the caps on the news...and Tim makes a cameo. It looked much better in full size on the screen on the front of the newsdesk, and in white on the red hats. Like I said before...it is growing on me.. Hey Tim....how bout breaking out one of them big boxes I saw behind you and handing them out at the next cc.net get-together?huh? come on man..you know we love ya..
I think the logo looks pretty clean and classy when standing side by side with some of the greatest logos of some of the greatest teams in sports history.
The new logo kinda shocked me with it's simplicity, but it grows on you. I'm starting to really like it. It looks good, props to the Rockets for a nice, simple, sleek design.
never hurts to ask huh? besides, if Tim allowed some of the negative things said around here to bother him...he would already have an ulcer..
Of course it has an "Asianesque" feel to it, IT WAS MADE BY AN ASIAN DESIGNER . I've shown this to my asian friends and all of them think its ugly. to say this will appeal to asians is ridiculous. it looks like the designer was high when he/she made it. like most of the people in this thread have said, this logo has nothing special in it. its just an R. Its not a logo, its just a gothic FONT labeled a LOGO. it makes me really mad. i was waiting patiently and eager (as any loyal fan does). expecting something nice or decent but i get THIS????!?! first the ugly rocket man, then we get the mustard ketchup thing, after comes a dildo blasting off (made to look threatening by teeth), and now we have a Font labeled a Logo. anybody, have the number of the designer? i'd like to know how much he/she split with the makers of the quake and buffy logo.
a blind man w/ no arms could have done a better job. well atleast it alot less complex... a step foward... not that big of a step though.
LOL, I see it, hmmm, omen perhaps? Symbolic of Yao taking this franchise up like the rocket blasting off... or.... taking the rockets down since it spells yao upside down.... hmmm.... yup, I'm on crack...
