Aldridge just reported that 'the Rockets have given Olajuwon permission to talk to a couple of teams to try and work out a trade'.

Gee, it sounds like Dream's trying to do it only to help the Rockets. I wonder if he he'll be kind enough to try to pry one of the first rounders out of Boston. Maybe he can get a protected 5 out of Detroit. [IMG]

This is honestly old news. Why Aldridge is just now reporting it I have no idea -- maybe the team is just now giving this info out, but Hakeem is no stranger to the Suns nor the Heat.

    Dannnnngggg Clutch.

It's amazing how good the Rockets are about keeping this sort of stuff out of the news. I guess they've had enough bad experiences, though, to have learned how to keep things quiet.

I don't think it's that hard to keep a good scoop from Aldridge or Vescey.

I can't see any trade with those teams being worked out. I would expect Hakeem to be talking with them about signing after being cut. I don't know who mentioned originally something like a wink-wink deal with say Miami where the Rockets waive Dream, and in return are able to make a deal to trade a player or two who uses cap room this summer (Los, Walt, etc.) for a player that doesn't (in the last year of his deal). Thus creating more cap room for the Rockets.

That is pure speculation but I think that would be fair and work well. Rockets are in this for the cap space and that actually increases cap space by letting Dream go. I think the Rockets are looking to be the very best option besides Sacramento for Chris Webber and even if they lose they have a lot of flexibility.

Webber praising Dallas and saying he could possibly sign there may have thrown up some bad flags, in my opinion.

Thanks, Achebe, for posting this "old news". I hadn't read it before.

    Clutch,

I certainly didn't take it that way. The gang just seems somewhat sensitive lately. [IMG]

p.s. the new bbs tool is rad. I like the little page choice hyperlink on the summary page.

    jamma34,

I like Clutch's idea on unloading, say Walt for say, Dale Ellis (retired) and some other 2 million dollar player.

Maybe even Walt for Ceballos straight up?

I apologize, it's this damn meningitis outbreak on top of the prison break that's got me a little edgy.

Of course, Clutch "purposely" misleading everyone on this board doesn't help things. [IMG]

What about a trade for Dikembe? I don't know if their dollar figures match but they can't be too far off. I'm sure there is some overpaid schmoe in Atlanta that could make the figures work.

Atlanta sucks and they are waiting for Mutombo's contract to be up to clear cap space anyway, basically the reason they haven't traded him. Sending Hakeem to Atlanta would just give Atlanta the cap space a year earlier I think. Houston would still get the cap space after next year if they didn't want to resign Mutombo. Plus Mutombo can actually play defense and rebound, things we sorely need.

If Hakeem wants a trade, give em a damn trade. With the arena already passed, the team going in a different direction, and a worsening situation I say ship him the hell out of here for Mutombo!!!!!!

Oops. I guess Mutombo is a free agent after this season, not next season. Do this trade!

yeah, is there any other "old new" about this situation we should know? what scenario could we possibly work with miami? they'd have to gut their roster to come up with 16 mill (assuming of course they plan on holding onto bgrant and like eddie jones, and we dont need timmy)

Apology Achebe... I didn't mean it to sound belittling that you brought this up, which apparently some took it that way. I'm glad you posted it... I meant by calling it "old news" that Aldridge now saying the Rockets have given him permission to talk to other teams is nothing new at all. Dream was given that permission some time ago, or he's been doing it without permission. Just makes me think things are being given out piece by piece.
