As NBA teams get smarter about maximizing production, more and more teams are starting to understand that one of the most common shots in basketball is actually the worst. No team knows this better than the Houston Rockets.

I found the heat map really cool and impressed that we've managed to stick with this formula

but..but... experts would argue that Morey doesn't have a basketball PHD so this radical new way of looking at the game cannot work :p

So far this formula equates to first round exits every time.

That's the shortest article I've ever seen in my life. Do I have to pay a subscription or something to read the rest of it?

taking a lot of 3's probably help with offensive rebounds too, since someone defending on a midrange jumper can recover for a short-mid bounce if the shot misses, but if a defender is closing out for a perimeter 3, he's unlikely to be able to.

Experts also say that the passing game in football is much more efficient than the running game. So teams trying get great running backs are extremely dumb.

A lot of people still idiotically interpret this to meaning that we don't allow our players to take midrange shots. The premise is easy, if you plan on taking a midrange shot, it is either because that is the best shot available from the options given by the D or that you are a good enough shooter from the midrange. If we had an excellent midrange shooter, we won't stop him as long as he maintains a high enough percentage. If he's not a good midrange shooter, we prefer he drives in if possible or step back and shoot a 3.

how about "aldrich proceeds to knock the rockets out of the playoffs in the first round 2 years in a row with mid range jumpers"

    how's that?

as somebody mentioned.... spurs disagree. how did the barrage if mid range shots do against a 3 point shooting team? Defense killed us, not our 3 ptr's.

    Exactly right.

    Our defense was downright AWFUL.

This Houston team would have demolished Portland in round 1.

It would have been very disheartening to see your star go god mode Game 1/2 and still lose both.

Series would have been as Kenny Smith would put it, "ITS OVERRRRRR!"

This is far too early to be talked about... Plus it doesn't mention that we have some top players...
