Manny: I am not mad at you, of course. I think the long post should enhance my credibility because it proves exactly what I was saying all along that SamFisher kept dismissing. That's why I did it. I think I spent so much time with this issue because (I had some time and) I had no preconceived notion about Ted Nugent. The little impression I had about him was vastly different from the kind of criticisms I was seeing from people here. I knew nothing about his racist image until the first posts here which alluded to it. I read many dozens of articles about Nugent through search engines. I read his critics and I read his supporters, I read and posted him. The biggest alleged incident (Denver shock jocks) never even generated a legitimate news story beyond the Korean-American producer who was not even personally offended by Nugent's antics suggesting that he should offer a public apology to Denver's Asian-American listeners. The whole event smelled just like Ted's over-the-top antics and not the kind of race-baiting that it was characterized as. The final long post was in defense of me not in defense of Ted Nugent. SamFisher in demonstration of his advice that I should grow up (too funny) kept calling me names such as idiot and jackass because of my position. He slurred the truth and insinuated that I agreed with Nugent's racist POV. When I told him that I was only asserting Nugent's constitutional right to freely express himself he accused me of changing horses. I had asked to check the record for himself. I saw no indication that he was going to do that and the dreaded Last Page indication was up. I had some time, so I did it myself and posted it for him to consider. I did spend too much time on this in retrospect, but so did we all. If SamFisher had restricted his criticisms to Nugent this never would have happened. I don't really regret it but I didn't particularly enjoy it either. I happy to agree to disagree, but it was not left at that. SamFisher kept insulting me for standing by Nugent's rights and I think that is wrong. It was SamFisher who got riled up not me. I got determined. However I will agree that were I not giddyup I would be bulldog. EDIT-- By the way, it took me a bit over an hour to compile all of that. I did most of it while I was multi-tasking on a conference call! Headsets are great...
LOL, you are truly an original, giddy! I know how you feel. There have been times that I felt insulted and backed into a corner, but I guess I am a wuss in that I try to part as quick as possible. However, if someone is calling you names, it is hard to do that.
I actually read and thought about what SJ, BJ, Jeff, Mrs.JB and all the others wrote. It gave me pause to think about what I said, so I went back and re-read what I wrote throughout the course of the dialogue. That's why I was so sure of what I had said. A couple of things I wrote were a bit naive or blunt but they were in the spirit of what my main point was, that is to say that Nugent has a right to express himself in any way that is legal. He is a performer, after all, and his performance persona is over-the-top. Get over it; don't support him. I don't. I'e never bought his music etc. BTW, Ms. giddyup informed me earlier that Nugent has suffered the wrath of God. His home has been overtaken by mold and, I believe, is no longer liveable. Got room, SamFisher?
