Of course he was tired. Try dunking a basketball with authority right after running a bunch of short sprints. Hell try dunking a basketball at all! - ya fat geeks. What you saw on the video was Badiane doing sets of screen and rolls without any rest in between - its kinda like running short sprints without any rest. If he missed some shots, so what, Nachbar made 21 out of 21 and Langhi was the king at stroking it in practices and look what that did for them.
I was impressed for his size as a 19yr old, he looks like he could be a beast in a couple of years. The kids form on his shot is not that bad either.
If Ben Wallace can work hard to get to what he is today, I am sure the kid can get there IF He can WORK HARD.
I thought he looked good except for his shot which wasn't completely hopeless. His free throw stroke was ok. Keep in mind that he wasn't even showing his strong points. Rebounding and shotblocking. He looked like he had an NBA body. He was bigger in the arms than I expected. I thought he also looked fluid and quick on his cuts. He dunked fine. Who is to say he couldn't get higher if he had to. To me he looked much more athletics than collier, and perhaps even Eddie. I think he'll make the team. Hey I'm not afraid to go out on a limb. I'm looking forward to Friday's game on NBA tv.
All this video does for me is confirm that it is a good idea to not get excited about this guy. He may turn out to be good, or he may never be any better than he is in this video.
I don't know why they put all that missed jumpers in a 1-minute highlight video. If I had prepared that video probably I would have done a better job.
He's a true project who may or may not pan out. But at pick #44, he's worth the risk based on his athleticism alone. Combine Collier's jump shot with Badiane's rebounding and shotblocking, and you have a complete player.
For those of you that are knocking him already, get a freakin life. Thats absurd. His free throw shooting looked above average. His shot was off, but he had pretty decent form. It looks like he could develop a nice 12 foot shot. His size is impressive for his age. Given the fact that we didnt see him play defense or rebound, its stupid to make any assessment of his talent. Besides, he is a 2nd round pick and therefore shouldnt be expected to do great things right now, as some people are expecting from him. Heck, if he makes the team, that would be great.
Good size, coordinated, mobile, decent touch, and if his athleticism and defense is as good as advertised we can have a solid player in the future. Good pick.
He is just "Raw", but soon he has chances to show his stuffs in the summer league. He might even start as the centre of R team, I am expecting more videos on him with those approaching games. But one thing, he is not Amare.
He looks slow and weak. In 5 years he may be as good as Terrence Morris. I would expect him to be cut by the team by then.
I agree with RocketFan007 There's no way that ANYONE can interpret Malick's abilities from that 1 minute clip. Maybe he sucks. Maybe not. All that video showed us is that he doesn't have a conjoined twin. -- droxford
He's the most exciting #44 pick I can recall. You can't get a good idea of the extent of his physical capabilities from that clip. He was obviously being told HOW to do the exercise, he wasn't going full throttle. As for explosiveness, well ESPN insider reported him having a 32 inch vertical, which is good for a guy his size - not spectacular or anything, but good. There's so much you can't tell from something like this. At most you can make a few basic, basic judgments. He's no Yinka Dare. His movements were fluid and controlled and coordinated. He seemed like he had nice, soft hands. That's about all you can say. His shot looked fine to me, nice release, follow through - looks like he was less comfortable shooting when he took a dribble or two - not hard to imagine for a 19 year old power forward. I look forward to see him in the summer league games.
I think I saw him a little on FSSW's sports report last week, I forgot which day, and after a workout he talked a little bit. I forgot what he said, probably the normal, "I will just play hard for team," stuff, but it was English, though in a heavy accent if I remember correctly.
I have a question. When Mobley was drafted, did anyone know anything about him as a steal or exciting addition? Or was he a huge surprise and "blessing"?
I had just watched Rhode Island take care of bizness, so I had seen Mobes play. However, in the tourney, I wasnt sure if Mobely was better or Wheeler, Cuttino's teammate. I thought both were pretty good. Im surprised Wheeler didnt pan out, but Im glad we got the Cat.
He looked very nervous to me, and I don't believe that he was sure what they wanted him to do. No suprise, he only started playing the game 3 yrs ago, and had never been coached until last season. He went in the 2nd round, and there is a reason for that. I don't think there is a very good chance he makes the team. However in a year or 2 he could be a possibility. His vertical looked very good to me (it had been reported at 32 inches) and his quickness is impressive.
He was supposed to be a big point guard, and Rudy T said he was the best defensive player in the draft at guard. Speculation was that he was drafted to help slow down all the point guards that were slaughtering us. No, most people were not high on him, but Rudy T was then.
