What do you mean you "do not believe it" based on what? I went from 240 to 275 in 3 months at the age of 21 and i grew from 6'2 1/2 to 6'4 at 21 as well...so believe it. Oh yeah Dennis Rodman went from 6'2 to 6'9 at 20 years old. Do you not believe that? Thats why he never played big time college basketball.
Your crazy, 7-8? Yao could still play at 7-8, but he might only get you 20 games a year becuase he will spend most of his time on the injured list. Would you know what it fells like to be 7-8? I don't think so. It is hard to play basletball when you start getting that tall.
The post on the ESPN message board was from the same guy that claims to have a listing of every NBA player's vertical leap, but he won't site the source. He claims Jordan't vertical was 55 inches and that he could touch the top of the backboard. He's also the same guy that claims that the Rockets are going to trade for Jermaine O'Neal. The guy just likes to hear himself talk and draw as much attention to himself as possible. I've yet to see him post anything with references to back up his claims.
hey rocket fans, guys i remember something clearly, when Yao first played with us there was some confusion as to whether or not he is 7-5 or 7-6, i think the 7-5 measurement was pre-draft but NBA rules state that stats can't be changed until the following year to reflect that he actually is 7-6. i believe he is 7-6, but i dont think he grew an inch this summer, he was 7-6 at the beginning of the season, stats just weren't updated yet... does anyone remember this? because i haven't been smokin' anything..

Yao was measured at 7'5" without shoes and 7'6" with shoes. Since he plays with shoes on, the Rockets listed him at 7'6". My guess is that he's still the same size.
Okay, well, back in the real world... The NBA has Yao listed as 7' 5" and 296 lbs when he started playing for the NBA. Here's the source: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/yao_ming/index.html?nav=page ESPN and CNNSi have the same numbers. IF he has builked up (which I believe he has, even if just a little), and if the source exists, you should post a link showing the website with the new numbers. Otherwise, there is no evidence for anyone to believe otherwise. Sources, people! Sources! BigMo04, I know you're knew here, so I'll cut you some slack: it's a bad idea to post info here unless you can back it up with some kind of evidence. -- droxford
Oh - hold everything.... This is a BS thread - BigMo04's user account was hacked, and the guy pretending to be BigMo04 probably started this thread just for the hell of it. More info here: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60852 This thread should die now -- droxford
Yao Ming was measured by the NBA as 7'5 1/2'' in bare feet before the draft.[In Chicago exhibition] Its not unreasonable that he was 7'6 1/2'' in shoes. If he is now being quoted as being 7'7' by my math he MIGHT have grown 1/2''. No fan was stupid enough to suggest that Yao Ming COULDNT put on Weight and Strength. All fans wanted him to increase his strength. Some fans wanted him to only have a small increase in his weight.
Everyone talks of hiim bulking up, but I wonder if there's the possibility that he'll become too much of an oaf with any more weight. Didn't he use to even have a vertical before he started adding the weight a few years ago.
Yeah, and Hakeem Olajuwon is 7'0 Come on, guys, Rockets fans of all people should know that these numbers are ALWAYS suspect.
