Trying to look for work before I go back to school later next month, but I need recommendations as I've never really worked a real job before, aside from a student worker at the UHD Library and was fired for BS reasons about a month back. Was thinking of Target but started hearing mixed things... I'm trying to be realistic with this, not really expecting a paradise 10/hr easy money type of job (which my library job kinda was... ***** those two-faced pricks), but something that's manageable for basically a rookie in the workforce. Any recommendations?
Surfing p*rn sites at the library is no big deal unless you are actually employed at the library. It comes across as unprofessional.
What's your major, OP? Try to get something that's super entry level, close to what you want to do? (Like if you're pre-med, try to find a job in a doctor's office.)
Kemah Boardwalk as a game attendant. That was my first job at 16. Minimum wage, had to stand out in the sun, and had to beg for restroom breaks. All the while customers get pissed because when they lose they think you cheated them when really all you care about is getting through this ******* shift. Before they had security cameras installed everywhere to watch the employees you could make a lot of cash each weekend depending on which game they stationed you at.
Go work at HEB, flexible hours, will start you out at a reasonable rate. I've been with them since I was 18, they helped pay for my school and promoted me very aggressively even when I was in college. But if you are just looking for a part time gig they are good with that too.
What are your marketable skills? Likes? Hobbies? Anything? In college I work in the Computer Lab .. .. best job on campus. . . well one of them . .esp for a student Rocket River
Your resume blows (u have no work experience). Don't be picky. Take the first job offered to you. You can always quit when u find something better. You shouldn't even be asking where to apply. Apply everywhere. You are not entitled to the job you want (especially if you have no work experience).
Register with UHD's career services website to if anyone's looking for undergrad co-op interns. Take some computer classes or try to learn accounting on the side and try to get an A/P clerk or tech support job. Bank teller isn't a bad idea either, I think a lot of time they give preference to them for Personal Banker or Branch Management jobs down the road.
Parking attendants make an extra $100 a night under the table! Find something that is inline with your major. It will help your resume.
Plus if you were to transfer to a different school they will relocate you to a different HEB in that area.
Back in my day there were no parking attendants. They would just make us game attendants do it when it got really busy.
