^^ That's usually how it works. See my post 86 in the thread about 2008 winter. This is the Canadian model for around the same time. This one has a snow storm for most of Texas: Spoiler Spoiler
Yeah, I'm gonna need you to go ahead and push that ice storm back to around 1/5, mmmmkay? Thanks a bunch.
Check out these temperatures in this GFS forecast model (the box that says 2M Temp/2M DepPt) from January 1 - January 7. The temperatures stay at freezing or below for about 5 days in a row. Freezing line represented by the dashed line. Little bit of snow on January 1st.
The cold is coming! Not that it wasn't cold yesterday or this morning but prepare for it to get much colder with this front heading towards us right now. It should be here tomorrow. I strongly believe the models are underestimating the cold and therefore it will be a lot colder than the forecast depicts right now. The front is moving through Kansas now and the low temp tomorrow night in Wichita is 4 degrees. Expect it to be near freezing (possibly below freezing) Wednesday-Friday with a potential for some winter precipitation.
^ I expect that to change as we get closer to the event. I am not saying Houston is getting an Ice Storm but it is not out of the realm of possibilities with this type of cold air on the way. Canada is unbelievably cold and the cold air is heading south.
The City of Austin has cancelled all New Years activities and Fireworks until further notice. Appears Houston will be just a few degrees to warm when the precipitation arrives to cause any problems here. NW counties might have some issues though. Things can change quickly just keep that in mind when going out on NYE.
Seems like forever since I've seen the sun. Combine the temperature is this what it feels like living in the Pacific Northwest? Feels depressing
I don't get this reasoning. Maybe I'm just weird. Usually if its really bright outside I get pissed off because of the blinding solar glare. Overcast is nice on the eyes and cooler weather is always a plus. The sun sucks. And the sun in the middle of summer is godawful. Might as well live in an oven next to a flood light.
yeah. it's going to get very cold in the midwest and the east. Nice to see mainstream media no longer use the term "vortex". The jet stream and its associated rossby waves are going to send places like Chicago into sub-freezing temperatures for a week, at least. In fact, the jet stream will dip down further into the lower US.
