With Smith and especially Brewer, I expect Ariza's shot to come back due to more rest. Ariza was never going to keep up with the pace he set in the first handful of games, but the slump has continued because of the huge minutes he's been playing. Take him down to the low 30s in minutes per game and he will start shooting 40% from 3 again.
Three games is a bit small of a sample size. Nonetheless, for the entire season Trevor Ariza has shot worse than your cherry picked Parsons cold streak. Ariza is shooting 32.9% over the last 10 games. Statistics don't lie: http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/field-goals/sort/fieldGoalPct/count/121 Ariza is dead last in field goal percentage among qualified players. Josh Smith is ranked 115/122. Morey is collecting all the worst shooters in the NBA.
you can debate who is the better player, but IMO Ariza is the better fit with H&H- he doesn't need the ball, has little to no ego, plays superior defense, and is an excellent 3 point shooter. perfect fit for this team. you can win with 2 alpha dogs, but not three, as the heat (bosh had to step back) and the '77 sixers learned.
I bet Ariza plays more minutes than Parsons. I bet Ariza also guards better players and also allows a lower field goal % of whoever he is guarding compared to Parsons.
He's collecting the worst shooters in the NBA just to irritate you. Along with that he's thumbing his nose at you by winning with those shooters.
If we're going to focus on the last 3 games like the other Morey apologist in this thread suggests, I'd like to point out that we're 1-2 over those games.
Yet people still feel the need to complain about DM the GM all over the GARM. I don't understand it. This is the perfect example of what sets him apart from other GM's. May seem like the roster turns over frequently, but considering the injury riddled team he inherited, it appears he has finally put his stamp on this franchise. Although not overnight, this team has improved every year and really looks like legit contenders for the forseeable future. ...scary part, he's not done. He's not ever done.
Just because Troy Daniels was shooting like 15% does that make him a bad shooter? Lol Ariza is at least an above average three point shooter. His numbers will improve throughout the season just as Harden's will as they both get some rest. He is also a good rebounder and finisher in transition and makes good cuts. You could have just stopped at questioning the excellent three point shooter part, but you always seem to go a little beyond and but more extreme to reinforce your one dimensional understanding of basketball. No worries, you are still a good fan.
He was a serviceable scorer. Otherwise he would not even be in discussion for the allstar game Come on now.
yea but the point of the post was Parsons vs Ariza/Brewer/Smith which is unfair. Brewer came in a trade, so it's not like Parsons was holding cap space for him. Smith was paid extra via jeremy lin trade exception. So Parsons/Brewer/Smith could've happened too. It's pretty clear already Jsh SMith takes way too many shots. Wont be too long people will get sick of it if it keeps up.
Interesting stat Memphis game: Brew-smith-riza combined: 49 points 20 rebounds 4 assists 2 steals 2 blocks 5 Turnovers
This is what I keep thinking about. This offseason, I so badly wanted Bosh to sign and then have us match Parsons contract. Our bench would have been so thin, but at the time I didn't think it mattered and we would be able to find backups somewhere. Would I rather Bosh+Parsons? Or Ariza+Brewer+Smith(with Papa just for good measure)? Obviously it has just been one game, but we have the potential to be a better and deeper team than I ever imagined during this past offseason
Actually we could have in terms of cap and trades. Ariza was actually part of the Asik trade. Then match Parsons. Use Lin TPE on Brewer. Sign Smith.
