The money is REALLY cheap here if it's $4.3mil/yr. Fisher and Kerr both got $5mil/yr. While I would've wanted McHale to produce in the playoffs first, I can see why the Rockets would want to do this in terms of stability. Keep in mind that if Les was willing to eat like $20mil from Scola's amnesty, he's not going to bulk at McHale's $13mil guaranteed. At worst, this is just a retirement present from Morey to his former Celtic idol. At best, well, McHale has been COY candidate so far.
Love the move...McHale gets a bad rap but I think he has grown as a coach and is entering the top tier.
I guess they believe in him and this team now. They prob about to finally lock in on a roster once we get josh smith, espcially iseen on twitter that we promised him a starting a spot. I expect one more trade then we have a our team for the future. and Mchale will be the coach of that. But if the front office truly believes in Mchale , they thibk he si capable of a playoff run. This contract pays him 4.3 mil a year. Imagine if we made a WCF run. smart.
Seriously, if we're making football comparison, so far McHale has done the following. 8-8 8-8 9-7 WC, lost in the first round on the road against #1 team in the NFL. 11-6 Division winner, lost in the first round at home against the WC team. 3-1 to start the season Kubiak got his extension on a much lesser resume.
Moreys big signing of the year........splash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure all the coaches in the west goin gaga......
See how he performs in the PLAYOFFS..The playoffs is where coaches make the biggest difference. Last years playoff collapse was enough for him to get fired...extending him 3 years now is a bad move..IMO!
Who are these teams? The Knicks? The Knicks are an outlier in just about every category of front office moves and contracts.
This was a no brainer given the season we're having, but I wish we didn't offer him 3 years. And I have a feeling McHale won't finish his contract.
Raise your hand if before the season you thought this team could play this well defensively? The coaching staff clearly is doing something right. As long as McHale has quality assistants (like the hiring of T.R Dunn) I am fine with the extension. The team has made great progress. BUT...it all boils down to "in game adjustments" during the playoffs. Terry Stotts out coached McHale in that playoff series. So, we'll all be looking at the adjustments when we get to the playoffs.

McHale is a player's coach. No one will doubt this in the league, most of the players played for him will say the same, even Lowry, who admitted its his fault last year. Committing long term to him at this point is clearly a sign to all the players out there : this is a good environment for you to play.
