Agreed, I've already accepted the fact that it's going to happen. Now that doesn't change that I'm still against picking up 29 year old Gerald Wallace, but if that's what the team is going to do, I hope it works out.

I have my doubts about how he would fit offensively, but similar to Trevor Ariza the first go around compared to Trevor Ariza now the roles will be completely different.

There is no way Josh Smith is getting up his career average of shots on this team. My hope would be that taking him out of a chucking role would do wonders for his efficiency. I don't see him ever being elite, but I think he could be respectable and when you pair that with his defense then I know I like him better than Jones. If we bring in Smith then Jones is the guy I would look to move.

Dmo on the other hand is someone I think this team needs and has to keep. That post game is rare. But I think a 3 man rotation of Dwight, Dmo and Smith could work really well with spot minutes for Dorsey or whichever backup center we keep.

To the point some on here make about Jones being uncertain for a period of

time, that is a pretty strong argument. I don't want to commit to the guy long

term, and everybody knows how vocal I've been about the lack of our midrange

game. He could deff. improve that, but I feel that the atmosphere...the culture

etc we've instilled this 1st 1/3 of the season has been amazing. I've really

enjoyed it. Smith has been known to cause problems in that regard (I mean,

comeon..he just got waived..) so that is why some feel so strongly about

preserving the identity we have as of now...because we know how desperate

the fans, the players, the FO...are about an identity with the huge roster

turnover thats been a theme for the last couple of years.

at least he can grasp our offensive concept easy
iso harden turnover stepback three or foul
post dwight turnover offensive foul muscles in a lefthanded hook
or the rare harden howard pick and nonchalant role

For those interested, Simmons and Lowe on Josh Smith and other recent NBA news:

Of the four teams supposedly in on him. Rockets can offer the most cash with the BAE..could offer a starting role..and Smith expressed interest in playing here but waiting so long on Dwight prevented it.

I'd be a little shocked if he isn't a Rocket by tonight

That is why I included this:

(all in jest- we need more posters like DaDa... don't forget , even when we disagree with him, he and people like (ugh) Tinman are what make ClutchFans great)

But, really, some of you need to lighten up a bit- sometimes, when the back-and-forth dissolves into the typical stalemate it becomes, humor is all you have. Because, let's face it, not one thing that any one of us says on here is going to make one iota of difference in the decision of Les, Daryl, and Kevin (unless they're posting on here in secret).

I'm out too for the rest of the week- everyone have a happy holiday!

(and if you need a resume for the new year [yes, I'm prostituting myself on this {and every board} this last week of the year], you know who to message.)

Well in ~24 hours hopefully we'll know where we're at. I mean if we don't get this gamble or it doesn't work out, do we then wait for Durant (2016 free agency)? Again, I don't think Smith is a guaranteed championship or something, but we definitely need more pieces to advance in the playoffs so I'm all for the risk. I mean worst case where still where we're at, which is no where in the West.

As much as I believe Smith a chucker, If you don't go after him for only around 2 million is plain stupid. You add depth and a proven defender things we are going to need come playoff time.

On top of that we have already seen what injuries could do to our team real quick, so the more able bodies the better.

If the guy is a cancer, then NO WAY (Same reason I preferred not having Rondo). We're building something special. But I've not heard that about Smith.
I can excuse his stats given he's been played out of position and on a terrible Pistons team.
The price is right and worth a gamble. Maybe with a friend like Howard on the team, he can be kept in check.
Even following the Morey philosophy being to trade for improvements, for me Smith is an improvement on Black and Dorsey.
I'd still be starting DMo right now over Smith, but like a few others have said, there's plenty of minutes to share between Howard, DMo and Smith. And we still don't know how long Jones is out. Makes sense to me.

The thoughts of Josh Smith jacking up all those 3s in this 3s friendly system is nauseating to me.

It was fun to read his posts this AM for a few minutes because it made me feel about 10 years younger.

Then it got old. Like me.

Seems like it wasn't that long ago that this board was complaining about Jason Terry being too old, had a bad season last year, coming off surgery and general hating on the guy. That seemed to work its way out.

Team identity is about winning. I really like this team but we don't have anyone on our roster that can do what Smith does, period.

It's so ironic that it seems most want Dragic or Lowry back and don't remember we had to let them go to get Harden & Howard.

We're in a perfect place now and it's too late to worry about roster turnover. We are missing a piece though & Smith probably isn't it, but if he plays well things are going to get weird here fast.

It's cool. Better to go back'nforth with you than some others on this Board.

As for Josh 'FA' Smith: what the hey is the downside? The gent will kill no team/chemistry/cap/cost any assets of any consequence but, ok, might hurt a rim or two...

Good point, I think I even remember some complaining about H&H joining, but where would the team be without them... I mean I like the debate on here just sometimes I'm glad we're not in the position to make changes on the team haha, and that goes for me too (not throwing anyone under the bus or something). :)

So glad we did not get Rondo, especially if we end up getting Josh Smith. Rondo and Smith are both going to be FAs and you don't want two guys b****ing about more minutes, shots, and looking to get there own rather than sacrificing to get the W for the team. It is human nature, and both want to get there last big contracts before they retire (Josh Smith would be happy with the full MLE).

Rondo, imo, is harder to keep under control simply because the offense goes through him so much and we want the ball in Harden's hands. Except, Rondo wants to keep his assist numbers up

Josh Smith at PF for the Rockets would be great.
