Well, now I have apartment trouble!

I live off of Newcastle and Wild Indigo. My upstairs neighboor is completely remodeling his apartment and has his contractors out starting work for the past week at 7:00 am! There is about seven guys drilling, hammering and sawing at this ungodly hour (I'm still in school) The problem is he owns his condo and city ordinaces allow for noise between 7am and 11 pm.

Here the great part of my story>

I went up stairs and asked him if he could start the workers any later then 7:00am because me and my friend work at night, he actually told me this..

"Maybe you can find somewhere else to sleep for the rest of this week...."

Yeah, and maybe I will drag your old fat-a$$ out of your apartment and hit you with sticks.

I guess the moral of the story is get a house with a big fence or go to law school and just sue everyone into submission.

He really seemed to love the area. Don't blame him, really. Compared to Riverside, anything looks good.

I'd throw a rock through his window.

Poop in a paper bag. Light it on fire. Knock on his door. Run.

It definitely is a nice area, and I like all the restaurants, shopping places on 360(like Best Buy)

Plus its a heck of a lot easier commute traffic wise to school.

I really appreciate all your help, gr8-1, and I'd recommend ypu to any austin area bbser needing an apt, or anyone in austin looking for a new place as well.

Thanks a lot everyone for your suggestions and help, and Baqui, I, no doubt am excited to be in such a pretty area as far west compared to the low rentness of Riverside.

Glad it all got worked out, DV.

I used to live up on Tallwood in the Far West area for a couple of years, my last couple at UT. Nice area, a good mix of residential and college students. Anyway, the rent wasn't bad, either. We found a 3 BR, 2 1/2 bath for around $900. Anyway, right next to our apts was this Holiday Inn, with a Sports bar in in called "Legends." We went there a couple of times to catch Rockets games on satellite and things like that. That was the cool thing- at that time, and hopefully still now, they have all the sports packages. And they were usually really packed for Dallas Stars playoff games.

However, the service there was ATROCIOUS! If you order food, it takes FOREVER for it to come back, and often it's wrong. The food isn't bad, it's just usually not what you ordered! It's terribly understaffed, as well, when it gets busy. Anyway, it's a great place to catch a game on TV, or down some drinks with friends, but don't expect too much from a grub perspective.

College Park has got to be one of the worst complexes ever.

No offense, but I found the "official lease" flyer.

You'll never guess when I had to tell them I was renewing by.

For my lease that started on August 23rd and ends Aug 11th, they wanted a renewal notice by January 31st.

Are they nuts? A lot of things can happen between January 31st and August.

This now while legally binding, seems like a scam to take advantage of their college customers.

And yes the manager told my mom they had messed up, so I believe she talked to them by that deadline anyway.

I'm so glad I'm living in Far West next year.

Did you check any apartments in West Campus? You pay a little more for less, but the convenience is so nice. If I returned to Austin, I'd want to live in West Campus or downtown.

I wouldn't live in west campus if I were over the age of 20. It's a great party scene, especially if you're a fratty, but it's loud over there. I prefer north campus/hyde park.

Yeah, I agree. If I end up in Austin for school in a couple of years, that's definitely where I'll be living.

    Smokey,

I can't stand West Campus. The narrow streets, the partying, the run down complexes, all the cars parked in the narrow streets. Just not for me. I just am not into that scene, much more reserved.

    Different strokes for different folks.

Thats part of why I was at Riverside in the first place.

I wanted a place where I could get away from UT while being relatively close to school.

Now, as a junior with a year and a half left of school, a move up north is good for me, and its closer to a lot of the shopping and restaurants I like.

ok, time for me to chime in.

apartments in Austin are a dime a dozen, I lived in five different pads when i lived there. Riverside, West Campus, North Lamar.
always put in 30 days notice, always got my deposits back.
    never paid a brokers fee.

now i have to deal with Management companies in NYC who are trying to screw me.

our lease was up at the end of February.
at the end of January we put in 30 days notice as well as signing a notarized document saying we would NOT be renewing our lease.

February 28th rolls around- it is a friday. we needed the weekend to move. i put in a call to the broker who got us the place (first and last month up front plus security PLUS BROKERS FEE-over $2500 up front)

broker says we can use the weekend to move.
monday March 3rd rolls around, there is a freakin undercover drug bust in our building, no lie, so we couldn't move out.

we turn our keys in on March 4th.

FOUR MONTHS LATER AND NO DEPOSIT!

we put down $1100 and they owe us $900 for the four days we stayed extra.

they "offered" us $550 for our troubles so we hired a lawyer(he's a friend so its free)

    NO RESPONSE, NO DEPOSIT, NOTHING

angry venting rant post, i apologize........

Living anywhere else but west campus subracts from the total college UT experience.

    Oltorf/riverside sucks.

West campus isn't for me. I wouldn't live there unless it was my only option.

For 1, I'm not much of a partier.

Secondly, my one major pet peeve is people parking their cars in the street, and thats very prevalent in West Campus.

3rd, I want to not have to come home to UT when I get out of class. I'm a more reserved person, as is, content to chill at my pad and talk on my computer or have a close friend over.

I don't feel like I've missed out on anything by not living there, just the same way I feel about not visiting 6th street but once, and that was for a class assignment.

    It's just not my thing.
