I've recently moved to Los Angeles, and I have some family coming to visit soon. I know my niece just recently took up surfing, and I think everyone would enjoy a day at the beach. I would really be grateful for some suggestions of good beaches in the area. I would be willing to travel south, hopefully not as far as San Diego, but wherever. Criteria I'm looking for : - Family friendly - Good beginner Surf(possibility renting of boards near by &/or lessons also a plus). - Not too crowded.(we can go on a weekday which may or may not help). - good Body surfing. - good inexpensive(or as close to inexpensive as possible) eats near by. - Parking that's not a nightmare. - bathrooms. Anybody who lives in Southern California or has visited beaches around here, I would love to hear any suggestions you have. Thanks, FB
edit- maybe Newport Beach would be better. I think the waves are better down there, but I like Manhatten and Hermosa Beach the best.
Newport Beach for sure. Specifically, try the beach at the Balboa Pier. There is a large grass area, a playground, and new bathrooms, plus cheap food at the funzone or nearby fastfood. The parking is sometimes bad on weekends, but OK on weekdays. Check out the houses on Balboa Island if you get a chance.
Great! Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely check out Newport Beach first, and then I'll move on and check out Hermosa and Manhattan.
