Guys, with all due respect, this isn't about Rudy or the system or anything else. This is about Hakeem and his not wanting to be here. I heard rumblings about this back during the summer. In fact, I was worried he would want out before the arena referendum passed. The fact is that Dream is a guy who has done this throughout his career. Axeman once posted on here that Olajuwon used to demand the team renegotiate his contract in the locker room before the tipoff to games. Knowing him as I do and his source, I know it to be a true statement. I love Olajuwon as a player and will always have fond memories of him but he created this problem, NOT the Rockets. He is the one who put the pressure on the team to make a move and, quite frankly, I hope they do something quickly before it gets completely out of hand. Remember that this is a TEAM, not Olajuwon's franchise. Just because he WANTS things his way doesn't mean he should get them or that they would be good for the team. If you just like Olajuwon, fine. Be a Hakeem fan but don't call yourself a fan of the Rockets if your only interest is in Dream. They are not the same. ------------------ I am very very sleepy.
It's odd to think of Dream that way but Jeff you're absolutely right. ------------------ Ceo of the Walt Williams fan club. Web site coming soon atheistalliance.org
damnit rudy, make olajuwon feel wanted here and give him a few plays once in awhile. ------------------
Absolutely. I don't see any other good centers on the Rockets. Lets take advantage of the true "franchise" while we still can. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Olajuwon has been selfish over his career... I am Rockets fan, not an Olajuwon fan and it's best for the team to get rid of him to a) avoid disruption b) allow their younger players to develop more. Olajuwon is stunting the growth of the team if he shoots more than 5 shots a game and plays more than 15 mins... While I have respect for him, his whining has tarnished my opinion of him... Enjoy Phoenix Hakeem. ------------------ Check out my homepage! Loads of sports pics! http://www.public.asu.edu/~sykim/
Just let the guy play. Its obvious that is all he wants. All he wants is to get a few more minutes in crunch time, and a couple more touches. He could still be a good complimentary player. Hell, he HAS been a good complimentary player. 10-6 is not that bad, considering the state of the league these days. Rudy should just play him, and let him finish his contract. Its not like it matters anyway, the season is a lost cause. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Bringing Houston's only two pro sports titles completely negates any selfishness Hakeem might have displayed over the years. His "selfishness" is nothing compared to, well, EVERY SINGLE NBA PLAYER UNDER 28! Cuttino and Steve have both been more selfish than Hakeem. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
First of all the season isn't a lost cause, it is FAR to early to say that! But if you do think it's a lost cause, how does breaking down and giving in to a 37 year old center and centering some of the offensive plays around him going to help this team in the long term? It could r****d this team's progress to restructure the offense to fit Olajuwon's needs. What is there to be gained changing it around if Dream is going to be gone after this year? And if Hakeem truly wanted what was best for the team, he wouldn't demand a trade right now and put the team in a bind. Trade me or waive me? Huh? That sounds more like a temper tantrum then true concern for the team. Think about it, what if Charles Barkley or Cuttino Mobley said that? People would rake them over the coals and rightfully so! And no what he has done for the city and franchise changes NOTHING about this because it has NOTHING to do with this because Dream brought it up not the Rockets. And just because Dream led Houston to 2 world titles doesn't make him less guilty of being selfish then if Chuck or Cat had said it. ------------------ "I have a scale at home and it only goes up so far, I love that scale!" - Charles Barkley TNT Studios [This message has been edited by RocksMillenium (edited January 17, 2001).]
