DD, I think it is fair to say that even though Kidd might be percieved as the best PG in the game today that you are correct in saying that he IS only a 2nd tier star. I don't think you can be a 1st tier star unless you can take the team on your back and win games and make big shots. Kidd is a good "set up man", probably the best, but can't score consistantly enough. I think this stood out greatly when guys like Parker or Claxton were guarding him. If he were a true 1st tier star he would back those guys down in the post and punish them. But he didn't. I don't see Kidd as an improvement on the Mavs. Nash fits in better with what they do. The Mavs should just worry about getting either Malone or Mourning added to their front line. They have all the pieces in place except for some muscle up front.
Dallas already has 12 players under contract: Fin Dirk Nash NVE Raef Bradley Najera TAW Avery Johnson Eschmeyer Rigo Josh Howard As a Mav fan, I don't see any of the discussed major acquisitions happening - Kidd for Nash, Fin to Chicago for crap, NVE for a big guy, Zo or GP sign and trade, etc. - all agent/media led smoke IMO. Figuring that Rigo will retire [or be bought out] and head back to France, we're down to 11 under contract. Most Mav fans think Raja Bell will be re-signed as cheap, enthusiastic, young, athletic, familiar help over Adrian Griffin and his bad back. So, we're back up to 12 under contract. The Mavs will most likely add a vet FA big guy for the MLE - Rasho, PJ, Horry, maybe even Malone or Miller, who knows maybe even Zo. We're up to 13. The Mavs still have the $1M exception. They'll either use that on a pedestrian vet, or just re-sign bombing Walt Williams for peanuts. We're up to 14 players. Maybe the Mavs like Josh Powell or Hollis Price or some other kid in the summer leagues. Maybe they add Chris Marcus as a flyer. Maybe the Mavs can convince a usefull vet to play for the minimum. I'm sure it's possible that the 15th and last roster spot will be occupied, but for some reason I have the feeling that Cuban opens the season with only 14 players, maybe watching the vet cut list of teams coming out of camp as the season opens for an attractive cheap final piece. AJ and Eschmeyer [knee probs] will start in street clothes. Our new MLE vet will find considerable time in Bradley's rotation spot, seeing how the Mantis just had off-season knee surgery and the last time he had off-season knee surgery he had a miserable 01/02 season underperforming on a slow-to-heal knee and a state of overall unfitness. Bradley will be in Nellie's dog house all season - just a personal prediction. Eschmeyer will barely be remembered as his knee never heals and his lack of skill isn't missed. The remaining 11 - Dirk, Fin, Nash, NVE, Raef, Eddie, Raja, TAW, Josh, New MLE vet and the Wiz - will make up the menu from which Nellie picks his nightly rotation. Dallas will be good again because of continuity and because Dirk is a freak and just turned 25 and because maybe finally Cuban crowing about Dallas being so attractive to studly FA vets will bear fruit in a contributing new addition via the MLE. I don't expect much change to style or substance for the Mavs in the coming season. Another 55/60 win season, making the final 8 or final 4 again - going further if luck looks our way. All just IMO as a Mav fan to you worried Rocket fans. We'll see what the off-season brings. A major trade throws all my opining out the window, but I hope you might see why the Mavs probably just stay the course next season expecting continued success.
Sorry, just ridiculous. I thought Nash proved how overrated he was to everyone this playoffs. Versus SA, Kidd was going for 20-8-6 while keeping his team in the series while Nash was going 15-7-4 while his back-up was the Mavs player to actually keep the series competitive. That series was a microcosm of the playoffs for those teams infact--Kidd was carrying his team the whole way and Nash looking like the 4th best player on his team. I was very dissappointed in Nash--especially the WCF--not only was his overall productivity at the level of a good/mediocre (not great) player, but you could tell he never rose to the occasion and dictated tempo in the critical junctures of games. Nash is a step below Francis, GP and a healthy Davis IMO, and two steps below Kidd and Marbury. Bibby and Nash are arguable the two most overrated PGs in the league--not that they are not good players, but their teamates make them look a whole lot better because they can create and drain shots, and also pass well. Strike that, these two are overrated as PGs, but not quite as much as Parker--probably the most overrated player in the NBA because of the relative ease of his role. In sum, Kidd is the best PG in the league, it is hardly a debate. The only one IMO in the same ballpark is Marbury. I will agree (in fact the only point in the above post I agree with) maybe Kidd is nonetheless a 2nd tier star, if the 1st tier stars are TD, Oneal, KG, Tmac and Kobe--and no more.
WROng buddy they traded kidd then two months later got nelson and he said he would have blocked that trade. get ur stuff right
yea wow u must be slow or just plain dumb. Steve nash was a scrub when he got in the nba he backed up kidd at phoenix and would have backed up marbury when the trade happened. so he went to dallas and yes nash is a better shooter. everyone will tell u this kidd makes his team better
You can't say Nash was a scrub in Phoenix because he never got a fair shot, just like Jermaine O'neal never got a shot in portland.
also i here peeps say jkidd is old so i looked it up kidd is a year younger then nash. and peeps say dallas needs interior game if u think bout kidd helps with that a great defender, i think top 5 in steals, and gets twice as many boards then nash
