Me and my girlie are heading out there Thurs. thru Sun. just for the holiday, to get away. So, what's there to do? Any ideas? Seaworld is out, considering admission is like 40 bucks, and I don't need to pay that much to see sea life. I already know about the Riverwalk and all....what else?

I know we are bringing our mountain bikes and hitting McAllister Park one day....but what about the other days?

    HELP MEEEEEE!!!!!

Of course there is the Riverwalk and the Alamo. Riverwalk is ok but don't get too pumped about the Alamo.

Other than Fiesta, I'd suggest hitting the river or the water park a few miles away.

Btw, if it's any of our business, is this the same girl who dropped glass? If so, I'm glad to see you guys worked it out.

Been to the Alamo a bunch...should have mentioned that. There's only so many times I can enjoy looking at the coonckin caps, and the Bowie knife. ;)

I knew that was coming. :D LOL!

San Antonio is a tourist trap. Come to Austin and see Willie Nelson and others play at the somewhat annual 4th of July picnic. Its going to be kick ass. Not to mention cheaper to stay here!

if you are going to SA....be sure and check out Mi Tierra, it's a mexican restaurant there. I went there during my last visit, it was awesome. Good food, good music......had to wait about 30 minutes, but 4 dos equis later....we had a table.

I went to SA two summers ago and stayed in a condo about 30 minutes outside of it.

    We went to:

    Seaworld
    Fiesta Texas
Ripley's Believe it or Not museum
    the Wax museum
    the Alamo
    horse back riding
it was too dry to go tubing :(

There's Breckenridge Park -- Kind of like Hermann Park. It has a Japaneese tea garden (Free) and a skyway. It also has probably the best zoo in the state.

There's Hemisfair Plaza, with the tower of the Americas, transportation museum, etc. It's accessible from the riverwalk.

The Quarry Theater is neat -- 2 story theater built into a rock quarry, with machinery in the lobby.

There's also a couple of huge flea markets.

If the weather's nice, there are several state parks and caverns in the area.

If you do like the historical thing, there is a self guided tour of I believe 6 local missions (not as well known as the Alamo.)

El Mercado is kind of a cultural market place downtown.

Don't forget that you can check out some of the areas Off of the riverwalk. Crocket hotell is cool, and they have some great resturants. She'll probably enjoy the Rivercenter Mall as well. (FYI -- park there for the riverwalk, and get your ticket validated in the mall for 2 hours of free parking.

Absolutely. Always crowded but always worth the wait. The margarita's knock you on your arse.

Anyone ever been to a little club on the north side that has a lounge band play every night? I can't remember the name of it (or much else from that night), but the singer owns the bar and he just does gawdy vegas tunes all night. He does requests all night long, just write them on a cocktail napkin.

Anyone know where I'm talking about?

Mi Tierra is definitely a must when visiting San Antonio. However, there are a crap load of good mexican retaurants Try La Fogata, Mario's, Los Barrios, Pico de Gallo, Rosario's or La Margarita Oyster Bar. Those are all very good places. I know La Fogata is always packed on Weekends. Pico and Margarita are actually owned by Mi Tierra, so the food is pretty much the same.

Bars- I personally would not expect a good dance club on the Riverwalk. Most good places are bars. Polyesters is OK, but it is freaking expensive for a crappy club. Swigs, The Davenport, Marks, and Zinc are more impressive. All are downtown near the South Bank. If you want to get away from Downtown, try Sherlocks Pub or Madison Ave. Excellent bars with live music on weekends.

North Star Mall will give you some assume shopping, and The Cheesecake Factory is there too! The Quarry market also has good shops.

The Witte and McNay museums are also good. Fiesta Texas or tubing is always good. Walk around the historic downtown district.

Sorry coma, I totally missed your post. YES, this is the same girl. Interestingly enough, we made it through all that, thought it was ridiculous and funny in hindsight, and have gone to a few counseling sessions to be better equipped to handle disagreements.

Everything right now could not be better. Thanks for asking!

In my experience, there's not much to do in San Antonio except:

    Riverwalk
    Sea World
    Tubing
    Alamo
    Fiesta Texas or Schlitterbon

I'd say the most fun things there would be the Riverwalk. It has plenty of bars and restaurants and all sorts of things you can do. There's a mall, and movie theater there... stuff like that.

Tubing is always fun, you can bring beer with you in a cooler. You can get one of those foam coolers. But I'd reccomend only doing it if you are 21 or older. There are lots of cops itching to give MIP's there.

    Natural Bridge Caverns is nearby.

    Natural Bridge Caverns

There are also some "drive-through" wildlife parks nearby that are kind of cheesy but if you've never done them before....

Tubing is fun but it pretty much takes an entire day.

My wife and I went to Fiesta Texas and it was okay. It was VERY hot and it just happened to be the day when all the kids who passed the TAS test got in for free. The park was overrun by all these obnoxious kids who had no shame about cutting in line whatsoever. When I was a kid at Astroworld at least we'd be subtle about it!

Oh yeah I went to Natural Bridge Caverns and the drive thru safari.

It has a cool dinosaur, that's about it.

San Jose Mission is really nice if you want to get an idea of what mission life was like in the early 1700's. It'll also give you an idea of what the Alamo was like before most of it was paved over. It's free and there is a movie you can see in the park headquarters that's pretty good and also free. I was sorry to see that the old Lonestar Brewery was closed, which is out that way.

The Pearl Brewery is still open. It's got a kinky museum and the tour should be free. I'm a big fan of brewery tours... probably did the Heineken tour in Amsterdam dozens of times. Free tastings! :)

Check out the hours and such on the Net. What did we ever do without it??

EDIT: Do San Jose Mission in the morning before it gets too hot!
