I can personally attest to this, as one of these actually climbed into my dress shirt as I was filling up the car at a gas station. It then waited until I was just about to enter Beltway 8 before it stung me twice on the armpit.

Damn bugs - that's why I never kill a spider.

does it hurt to be stung by a jellyfish?

My family has a beachhouse in Surfside and the water over there apparently has jellyfish in it.

Umm there is one way to find out. :D

I've heard they hurt big time, it's like a chemical burn. Either pour some vinegar or urine on it to ease the pain.

They serve as an important food source for other insects as well as some birds, bats and other animals.

Yep, there's definitely jellyfish around there. They don't hurt too bad though, it's a good sting for about 15 minutes or so & then it goes away. Meat tenderizer helps the pain, can't remember why though.

meat tenderizer helps a whole lot for wasp stings too. i got stung by a wasp earlier this year after it crawled up my frickin pants and stung me right around the thigh(thank god it didnt get any higher up). i put some meat tenderizer on it and i swear it was gone in ten minutes. i also squished the wasp and threw it in the toilet and made sure to take a piss on the body of the beastly, useless piece of crap.

Never tried it. Much easier to keep a little bottle of meat tenderizer in the tackle box.

I would rather take a wasp sting than a sting from a bullet ant. The sting from one of these little bastards has been said to feel exactly like a gunshot wound!

I was playing basketball with some people on somebody's yard.

This was like 9-10 years ago. I think.

The ball rolled into the grass, and I bent down to pick the ball up, and the wasp stung the ball, and then my face. It got me on the left side, left of my nose, directly under my eye.

It hurt so much for like the first ten minutes.

I went into his house to put some ice on it. After another five minutes, I was back up playing basketball with one hand on my face holding the ice, my other hand playing ball.

After a few hours, I went home and I told my mom. She got so pissed at me because I kept playing ball instead of going home.

This other time, I think it was last year, I think it may have been a year ago exactly to this week, a wasp stung me in my thigh. I was removing some tarp off the barbecue thingie, and I opened the hinge thing whatever, and a wasp flew out, and stung me in the leg. It stung like a b****.

    That is my life story.

    Thank you.

In talking about yellow jackets.....those things are definite biyotches!!

Fortunately, I only have been stung one time in my life that I can remember and it was by a f*cking yellow jacket. I was at the city swimming pool with my mother one summer when I was about 8 or 9.

That place was a haven for these creatures as people would leave half-drunk caffeniated drinks out. I must have sat down close to one because the next thing I knew I felt a sharp piercing pain in my arm. I cried like a little girl. It pissed me off and I am still pissed about it to this day!

I really don't like wasps or bees or anything else with a stinger either. But most of that feeling is due to my "fear" of being stung. I've never been stung by anything really, except ants if those are stings, and I don't know what to expect. I know it doesn't hurt and I have a higher pain threshold than I did when I was younger, but I am still pretty cautious around this insects. I used to stay out of a room with a wasp for hours until it left, but I've grown enough courage to stay in the same room now...unless it flies right in front of my face. :D

Maybe this fear started with that library wasp book I read that showed pictures of wasps, one of which looked like it had a 3 inch stinger at least. :)

I do appreciate what wasps do, though. I don't want them all to die, just to stop bothering me. :)
