My guess is it's as a memorial to the Central Market Girl who was run while on her bike over by a drunk driver last year. The women was sentenced to 15 years yesterday. The incident occurred near HEB by Allen Parkway
I remember seeing her sentencing in the news. It didn't go in-depth but I remember hearing that she was charged for not stopping to help someone in need. The KHOU article I'm looking at now says the same thing, but wouldn't she be sentenced for something like manslaughter?
Not manslaughter. Texas simplified the old common law labels into an umbrella term called "criminal homicide". It's a 2nd degree felony. 2-20y with a potential $10k fine. This is the defendant, Margaret Mayer. This was the victim, Chelsea Norman.
As a bicyclist and motorcyclist, I'd also ask all CF posters to refrain from using their cell phones while using driving. And bicycle riders need to wear proper gear and have the right equipment as well as following the laws. Saw two bicyclists nearly get hit in Midtown because they didn't have any headlights or tail-lamps (or helmets). This was at 11:30p on a damn Friday so it was stupid of them given how many drunk drivers there at that time.
When they're sitting at a light or something, fire extinguishers stop 'em pretty well. Air horns are fun for Harleys. I love bikes, I love riding, I ****ing hate the typical entitled bicycle/motorcycle enthusiast.
Don't get me started on the ones who ride the shoulders during traffic and cut everyone else off or ride in between cars. Part of me just wants to swiftly open my door as they do that.
Motorcycles splitting lanes? How does that hurt you? Riding shoulders is messed up but if a motorcycle fits between cars that doesn't slow you down right?
You mean when cars are moving at highway speeds or moving slow? If cars are going over 20 then yeah I agree with you.
