I have never seen any of Michael Mann's movies. Where should I start?

I would put that 2nd behind "Heat".

Also, other good Mann movies I've seen.... (I haven't seen them all)

    Public Enemies
    The Last of the Mohicans
    Manhunter
    The Kingdom

    Heard good things about:

    Thief
    The Keep

This man knows. Also, regardless of opinion, i really enjoyed Miami Vice; loved the production. Watch the unrated extended cut. Wish there was a follow up but doubt that ever happens.

Heat and Collateral. I also liked Miami Vice but many didn't.

That's one is Peter Berg. He of such classics as Battleship. Hancock and Lone Survivor.

I'm not sure why, but I have always loved the "we need someone from jail!" set up. LOL.

This looks pretty good. (Maybe a bit too much gunplay for a believable hacker movie, but whatev. Mann gonna Mann.)

    Heat

If you enjoy wet streets and neon lights, Mann is the director for you. I love the way his movies look.

Interesting, I saw them filming this in Hong Kong, literally the scene was somebody getting into a car, drive away, rinse and repeat about 10 times. Chris Hemsworth wasn't in the scene, he was reading a book on the side.

I saw the trailer on TV and was like man, that looks terrible. Then it was over and the Michael Mann credit flashed and I was like, well ****, now I have to see it I guess.

The problem was mainly the casting. You have a Chinese playing a the role of a Hispanic(yes they had a back story but it was weak), a Irish play a Miami cop and an English woman play trudie. All their accents showed to some degree. Then you had fox who is more of a comedian. Tubbs was sauve and brooding.

Of course, then you have a movie callee Miami Vice that mainly didnt happen in Miami....

I've seen all of them. Start with Heat (1995). Always a crowd pleaser and classic guy movie. My favorite are Thief (1981) and Collateral (2004).

It all starts and ends with HEAT. That is the apex. (Manhunter is a close second!)

In fact, I would say HEAT is my all time favorite movie.

The gun fight in the street is off the chain!

I would not start with Heat. I would watch Collateral and Last of the Mohicans.

Get your feet wet. Get a feel for what Michael Mann is all about. Once you're versed in it, once you've eaten your appetizer, then you go in and enjoy Heat with a better feel for what Michael Mann is all about.
