Zero Dark Thirty is a good movie, but not worth watching twice imo.

He said they restrained him using three sets of handcuffs because of his large size. Smith said that when the deputies placed Smith on his stomach, it was for “one to two minutes” and once Saylor began showing signs of distress, the deputies removed the handcuffs, called for help and administered CPR.

Yeah, these cops were really out to kill this guy. I agree that cops need to be better trained and/or guidelines need to be updated to avoid these types of accidental deaths. But this tendency to paint cops as blood-thirsty killers is so far removed from reality that it just draws the line in the sand further and makes compromise less likely.

If physicians can be held to legal and criminal standards in "accidental death cases", cops should not be above the law either.

Physicians are trained for years and taught the intricacies of the human body and what effects various acts can have on it. Are you suggesting that police should be trained to know what genetic conditions could potentially cause breathing problems and behave accordingly?

What exactly are you going for with this? Are you just trying to infuriate people who have relatives with down syndrome?

That aide kind of dropped the ball, seems like one should either be able to control their patient or at least manage their activities to settings and environments with limited distractions or variable outcomes.

No, I'm suggesting that "stuff happens" all the time, no matter what field of work... and just because they are "accidents" doesn't mean it shouldn't have repercussions for all involved (especially the cops).

If cops are involved in accidental deaths such as this, they should no longer allowed to be cops.

And yes, some increased training in how to subdue somebody who obviously is not mentally or physically able to be subdued may be necessary as well. These are people entrusted to serve/protect large cities/communities. Lets not act like they're complete idiots incapable of learning things.

This is pretty messed up. I guarantee that his family and the people that knew him didn't consider him a burden. I know some pretty cool people with disabilities. I hope you are just trying to be funny or trolling and you don't really believe this... either way you are an *******.

Always sad to see the disabled get mistreated but there are too many holes in the story.

Why did the aide leave Saylor alone to get the car? Did she leave him in the care of the theatre's attendants? If so, did they know he had down syndrome? At what point and who called his mother? Was the aide present when the police were called and/or when they arrived? Did the aide inform them that he had down syndrome?

From what little has been revealed, a lot falls on the aide, but it is very questionable that the cops knew so little.

Maybe all of the holes in the story is because the DA is releasing only limited info or maybe perhaps it's the fact that the investigators are from the same office of the police officers in questions?
