This couldn't be more true. We've had a couple of deals that have fallen through that I feel have actually helped the Rockets.
He is playing good now but let's see if he can keep it up for a season. That would be a much better indicator of his worth. Also a factor is this is his contract year. Maybe next year he will go back to being injury prone and punching fire extinguishers.
I would go like at most 13 for two years or 17 over 3 years. I imagine him being a productive big man off the bench in limited minutes - no more than 20 a game or so. His athleticism is nearly gone but he is still athletic enough as a big man and has skill. I can see him being useful to a team in the mix in the playoff hunt - sort of how Antonio McDyess was still useful after his crazy injury. What will be interesting to see is what Amare does in the off season. He had his huge payday - clearly he wont be making anywhere near that sort of money -- he hasnt sniffed the same sort of success in a really long time. Will he take less to help contribute to a team that could win it all while he is still a valuable bench contributer or will he just take the money regardless of where he may end up? It seems to me Amare does value winning too. He took a lot of pride in helping turning the Knicks around his first year there when he was still lethal before the Anthony trade and succumbing to injury again.
Three years $35 mil. He's better than Bosh and isn't scared of the pressure. Him and Dwight would kill the league's points allowed in the paint record. Then add The Dragon and it's over
Amare is an awful defensive player, and a mediocre shooter. He is also an injury concern. He is textbook fake stats, much like Jordan Hill. The Knicks are 4-17 for a few reasons, and he is one of them. Cap space could be spent more wisely.
Nah Jordan Hill is not bad at all. I watched the Lakers and the Knicks this year. Hill disappears in a few games but he shows up big a lot too. Probably 2nd best performer on the Lakers behind Kobe
If his body could play more than 15-20 minutes a game I think he'd still be all-star. That dunk on varejao the other day was fantastic. Honestly, Phoenix has to have the most legendary training staff ever. As soon as players leave that franchise they fall apart.
I don't know what he is worth on an NBA level. But he is not worth much to the Rockets. The front court seems set with Howard, Jones, D-Mo, Black with Papa getting the stretch four minutes.
I watch him every night in NY. In first halves, he plays like a young Amare but he usually loses his springs and agility by the fourth quarter and becomes way less effective as he still relies mostly on his physical attributes.
Seems a life time ago when they were drafted and the debates about Stat and Yao. He's still playing and Yao has been retired for years even with the constant injuries Stat has had, I guess if you were on the side of picking Stat over Yao you were right. He's been in full marketing mode for his next contract saying he feels like he was 19. I doubt he gives the Knicks a home town discount because he's grateful to them for giving him his max contract so I would expect him to sign with a contending team to try to win a ring before he retires.
Contenders rarely have more than the MLE to take a chance on a player who is so riddled with injuries.
San Antonio or Clippers probably. If Timmy and those guys come back for another season, I don't wanna know how Pop would somehow find use for Amare.
